Me and three buddies want to play a few funny multiplayer titles. Nothing too lengthy (like Mario Party) and involved (complex sports stuff), more on the simple and arcady side of things and of course simultanious (no hot-seat stuff).

Available hardware:
8 and 16-bit machines, MAME, N64 and Playstation (1) and also PC games that can be played with 4 Joypads on one PC.

So what I've already planned:
-Little Fighters 2
-Bomberman
-Goldeneye
-Snowboard Kids
-Smash Brothers
-Mario Kart
-Micro Machines
-NBA Jam
-SWOS

So which ESSENTIAL titles am I missing? I bet hundreds of excellent games so pls suggest!

Gauntlet 64, and Gauntlet IV Genesis( they may be kinda lengthy though.). If it was 3 of you total The Lost Vikings on SNES and Genesis would be perfect.

Some better games for your situation:
Genesis:
Tiny Toon Adventures: Acme All-Stars
NBA JAM T.E.

SNES:
WWF RAW(i think)
Tiny Toon Adventures: Wacky Sports Challenge

Maybe it's just me, but I always had fun multiplayer times with Chameleon Twist for the 64.

On the PC with MAME, you've just unlocked a wealth of games.

-TMNT arcade game
-The Simpsons
-Gauntlet, and I believe MAME supports Gauntlet Legends / Dark Legacy now - both very cool
-X-Men & Spider Man / X-Men
-Capcom's Dungeons & Dragons games
-there was a version of G.I.Joe that had four players

there were also a bunch that had three players, like the Aliens v. Predator.

For PC, there are probably very few - since they've been networked for years, most of them rely on people connecting with different PCs instead of all being on one and sharing the screen. One that I can think of is Blaze & Blade, but I think that's a longer adventure rather than just a short game like you're looking for.

You're really missing out by not including the Gamecube in this parté. Most of the best four-player games that I can think of are for that system: Pac Man Vs., Smash Bros. Melee, and Wario Ware, Inc. are just some of the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

A Wii would be nice I know.. but I have to make the most out of what I have now.

I also found another (freeware) PC title: Generally, excellent little multiplayer racer.

Thx for the suggestions so far!

didn't see perfect dark, super off road, battle tank global assult, destruction derby, monster truck madness, and tetris.

Genesis/MegaDrive: Yu Yu Hakusho: Makyo Toitsusen

Maybe not essential for most, but it is easily my most played multiplayer game on my Genesis. Terrific fighting action to be found here.

The Lost Vikings can be played three-player simultaneous? Cool. I guess Secret of Mana would be too involved?

Is the "Konami System 573" emulated in MAME yet? Hyper Bishi Bashi Champ is pretty darn good, and I imagine the other Champ games probably qualify as well.

You mentioned Micro Machines, but you may want to track down a copy of Circuit Breakers for the Playstation. I didn't get to play it with 3+ players as much as I'd have liked, but I remember one afternoon I popped it in at a friend's house and the three of us must have played it for five hours straight.

One of the new Rampage games (i.e. Rampage: World Tour) might be fun for a little while.

That reminds me. Rakugaki Showtime is another one to throw on the list, despite its high price.
