Recently I got a good deal on a lot of Sega Saturn NetLink stuff. I always had a NetLink game but never had the NetLink adapter for “Direct Dial” competition. So now that I have the modem it got me wanting to play some Saturn games head-to-head.
I came across a really good site called the NetLink League (http://www.saturnleague.com/mxbb/). It caters to playing the Saturn “Direct Dial” against others. I registered with them but it got me wondering how many fellow DP’ers around here have a Saturn NetLink and some NetLink games that would be willing to play.
I will start with listing the NetLink games that I own and what days I am available to play. If other people post there info as well then we could use this thread as a reference for DP NetLink gamers. We could then PM people with the same games and setup a time to game against each other.
And hey, if this really takes off (keeps fingers crossed) then maybe we could get it stickied like the 360 Live Gamertags and the Wii Friend codes.

Man, I haven't fired up the old Net Link in years...
It would be cool to play head to head again on the Saturn.
I've got:
Bomberman
Sega Rally
Virtual On
Duke Nukem 3-D
I'm available on weekends as well.

Cool, I created one of the original websites for the NetLink league way back when... I didn't know it was still active! Too bad I don't have a landline, anymore. I'd be up for some Sega Rally or Virtual On. Is there any way to play through a broadband connection?

If there is a way, I unfortunatley havent heard about it. It sure would be nice though. I have a cell phone to make calls with... the ONLY reason I just recently got my landline was so I could *hopefully* play some Saturn against others!
Radiac... I'll be sending you a PM later today. Maybe we can give this a shot this weekend!?!?!?

Thats a good question. I know that with the Dreamcast you could use any region modem (or was it just the BBA) with any region system.
So I would be interested in finding out if thats the case with Saturn as well.

I'm pretty sure the BBAs were interchangeable, but not hte modems, on any system.
As for the Saturn Netlink, excuse my ignorance, but this will basically never be a dead online play method as long as there isn't some drastic change in landline standards?! Wow. I had no idea. I figured the Netlink was as dead as the Xband et al.

The Sega Saturn in Japan used the Xband service to match players up with other people and play against them. It was ALL handeled via the Xband servers and once they went down the games could no longer connect to one another.
When the Saturn Netlink was released in America it used the Xband service for matching up players as well. But THANKFULLY Sega also included the option for "Direct Dial" in all of the US Netlink games so when the Xband service went down, you could still play the games.

Can nothing be done online with Dreamcast anymore? Does the browser still work?
I wonder if any games could be RE'ed to work online again...

I also post regularly over at the Saturn League, and it would be great to see some new blood there ready for some games. I have all the games save for Daytona (that one glaring hole in my otherwise complete Saturn collection), but unfortunately I'm limited to local calls because the NetLink constantly drops out for me for long distance calls because I am on a digital phone service. Does anyone know if there is an analogue converter or some other method of circumventing that inevitable drop out? I've probably been linked up with a good 10 people from that other board, but every time we try it drops out just before the game loads. For local calls it works perfectly, which is a total drag.

I updated my NetLink games list. I finally got Virtual On and Sega Rally NetLink Editions so i'm a bit more flexible when it comes to who I can play against.
It looks like Radiac and I are gonna give Sega Rally a shot this weekend so I'll let everyone know how it goes. :rockets:
So c'mon... don't be shy. If you have a Saturn, a NetLink and some Netlink games make sure to post. Heck, I'll even dial the "first" game for each person I play against, so the cost for that game is on me! We also need more Canadians!!! Not only will it help diversify our Netlink group but it will help out Grolt in the process.
Grolt wants to NetLink but he needs people in his area. Spread the word so we can keep NetLink gaming! :rocker:
