If you'd like us to join your for a TF2 romp, it would help to know if you're Orange Box'ing it on PC, 360, or PS3.

I hope I don't have to wait long, as it's uncomfortable. :p

I still have to play the "First Slice" demo version that was available for free on Steam a while ago. I am so uninformed about this meme! :(

Wow, you must be a sad, sad panda.

Coconut cakes are delicious and moist. There's no use crying over coconut cakes.

Wow, are you guys serious? I thought DP was a place for people who were informed about this hobby. I haven't played Portal, I don't visit 4chan, and even I knew what the thread was about. It's been all over Kotaku and Slashdot, in several popular webcomics, and probably mentioned by every gaming and technology news site known to man - and this has been going on for months. If anything, I'd berate the guy for naming his topic with a played out internet meme that I got sick of a long time ago.

But throwing all that out the window, even if you couldn't look at the thread and immediately know exactly what it's about, I don't really see what the problem is.

If anything, we should note that there already is a "post your steam ids" thread http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111525&highlight=steam

Why raise such a stink about it? All I ask is that you put something at least semi-obvious as to what the topic's about, minus memes. Or hell, WITH memes, just put the obvious stuff in parenthesis or something if you have to.

Maybe I'm carrying some kind of unfair bias because I had to edit a thread literally titled "if you" the other day... I don't know. It just doesn't seem like such an unreasonable thing to ask. I didn't demand, I didn't lay down any rules or quote any FAQs. All I did was ask, man.

I too am surprised that this site has many people who are unaware of this term. Portal is not a small little title anymore. Seems to be the most loved title on the Orange Box, Still Alive, the end credits theme from Jonathan Coulton is being added to Rock Band, and there is a T-shirt with this saying. One of my friends won't stop wearing the "the Cake is a Lie" t-shirt. It's everywhere.

I hate to admit it, but I only know of Portal because of 4Chan (more specifically, "The Cake Is A Lie.).

Also, the first half of my statement is a lie! I visit 4chan a decent amount, and I'm proud of it. I think. Or at least neutral.

I browse 4chan too, but the basic gist of it is this -- Oobgarm made a good point on how to do things for this board and I chose to back him up on it, and I continue to back him up on it. I'm not sure why we're still splitting hairs about it.

Too be honest, I don't hang out here as often as I used to because of how enthusiastic some of the mods are here. That and all the server blackouts of yore.

Still a great place though.

I'm here to help Joe with this place, and hopefully to try and help make this a better place for you guys. If I'm not doing that here, I guess I'll find some other way to help. I try to respect every member here, and I'm damn sure not about attempting to enforce my own will or "enthusiasm" on anyone.

Guess I must've gave the wrong impression.

No worries, I'm not trying to make anyone angry. It's just that I've been thinking things for a while and saw an opportunity to mention my opinion.

I find the police are seemingly on hand moderating more often here that most other places. It can be disruptive to the flow of a thread sometimes. I perfectly understand the purpose (and appreciate!) the efforts of mods as a whole. But saying that, it's always been my opinion that mods should be modding and directing traffic as little as needed.

I clicked on the thread initially because it was so oblique. Too much order sucks the life out of life, imho.

I bought the Orange Box yesterday and beat Portal this morning. What a cool game. Simple concept with puzzles that didn't get very repetitive. Only a few frustration points. My favorite line came in the last part -- "That thing you just broke isn't important to me. It's the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit. It makes shoes for orphans. Nice job breaking it, hero."

Has anyone else visited the viral site (http://www.ApertureScience.com) for Portal? If you mess around with inputs, the system comes back with some funny stuff. There's an application to become a test subject that made me laugh. And now I'd like my companion cube, please.
