Potentially dumb Xbox Live question

before I go through the cable swapping agony to get my Xbox 1 hooked up via ethernet, it is possible to play with someone (specifically, co-op team matches) who is playing the same game on the 360?

i.e.

Me- Xbox 1 w/ Halo 2

Buddy- Xbox 360 w/ backwards compat. Halo 2

This would work right? I keep telling myself yes, but I want to be sure before swapping cables. My 360 died and I'm waiting for repairs. I'm having casual Halo night withdrawls and this seems like the easy solution if it works.

2. No it wasnt a dumb question at all. No question is a dumb question around here. I miss the days of game systems that were simplistic to operate.

3. This is a very unreported feature of the 360. With Xbox games going really cheap, system linking games is a very cool feature indeed.

Tried it last night, realized it's almost impossible to go back to Halo 2 after playing 3 so much, and realized I wasted my time. :frustrated:
