View Full Version : Is this common or rare? (Call of Duty 2 on Quake 4 disc)

Ok, so I bought a copy of Quake 4 for 360 from Kmart for $10 because I wanted to play Quake 2 again. After being nauseated by Quake 2 after about a level (motion sickness in addition to the game being just one gigantic cliche... the last time i'd played it, I was in high school), I decided to pop in Quake 4.
What happened next was insane.
I saw the Infinity Ward logo and thought to myself, "WTF? They worked on this game?" and then all of these WWII scenes started playing and I knew something strange was up, so I pressed a button and what did I see but the Call of Duty 2 menu screen.
So I popped out the disc and sure enough, it's labeled Quake 4, but the game on it is Call of Duty 2.
My question then is, is this an uncommon thing? Have I hit some sort of collector's motherload?

Don't know if I'd say motherload, but it is a pretty cool find. They're not terribly common and may not command a pretty penny outside collector circles, but it is certainly a cool item to show off and discuss with others.
They're both published by Activision, so it kinda makes a little sense.

I had a similar thing happen to me, i bought a brand new ps1 game, called Strider 2,

It comes with 2 discs, they are strider and strider 2, well somehow there label was printed on the wrong disc for each game. Pop in strider, you get strider 2. Pop in strider 2, you get strider. I asked a few websites, and never got a answer if this was a common mistake for this game. I figure i couldn't have been the only person who got so lucky. :)

The Strider 2 mistake is common.

Strider is kinda common from what I understand. Cool find though man. That is the kind of weird stuff I like having in my collection. Might not be worth much, but, it is cool to show peeps and talk about.

i remember the first production run of x wing vs tie fighter had the two discs mislabled as each other and there were post-it notes on every copy in the store explaining that and selling them for half price, i myself still have mislabeled discs hehe.

Its so common in fact that ALL copies of Strider 2 have this problem.
In regards to the OP, like Oobgarm said these tend to be a bit more of a conversation piece than they are ZOMG R@r3 collectables. They can still pull a bit more $$ than the regular one though.

I had this happen with the Dreamcast. I had bought a copy of Jeremy McGrath Motocross, but the actual game on the disk turned out to be Crazy Taxi 2.

I bought the Tapes n Tapes cd Loon and the cd inside was actualy an ATV vs. Motorcross disc. It was just the wrong cd altogether. Factory sealed too, not that repackaging wrap stuff.

It's a joke. Some guy at Activision was trying to save you from having to play Quake 4.
So true, Quake 4 on the 360 isn't one of the "better" titles.

Stranger question is why you have little paper hearts stuck all over your TV? Did your TV come that way? It may be the rarest TV ever.

I have a lord of the rings third age for the PS2. I turn it on and it is a Crash game for the PS2. I got it from a friend who works at a national game chain.

I remember hearing about a guy who bought one of the Madden games new, but the disc contained a porn movie instead of what he actually bought (The disc said Madden, but contained a porn movie. Brings new meaning to "Fuckinmadden", my made-up word)

Would've been funnier if Madden himself was narrating the thing.

On a related note, I bought Slave Zero on the Dreamcast when it was new (yeah yeah..), and on top of my SZ disk was the first Dreamcast Magazine demo disk! Both disks were brand new, and the game sealed. One of the last games I bought from Toys-r-Us I think

It's not that unusual in the sense that I have several friends who either have games or audio CDs that are purportedly one game or artist and upon play are something completely different. The truth is, there are only a handful of replication facilities large enough to do large scale replication and sometimes there are quality control issues, especially if you pre-print the discs to save time and an underpaid employee happens to take the wrong spindle of blanks to the pressing machine. Most large facilities run dozens of jobs simultaneously on any given day, so the chances of this happening are actually pretty good. I've heard that the facility my company uses for television DVD duplication has a 1% error rate which includes both misprints and bad copies which won't work. They build that into the pricing structure, so I think it's just accepted in the trade.
