Damn, Oobgarm. Seems almost like your main competition is yourself! :)
On the other hand, Frankie_Says_Relax came out with a truly killer design. Awesome submission, man.
I think Joe's going to be pretty hard-pressed to pick a winner this year.

T-shirt Concept Name: Digital Press Da Vinci
Submission by: Frankie_Says_Relax
Front Logo (optional): Vitruvian Gaming Man
Front Text (optional): Digital Press / www.digitpress.com "Gaming As Life" (or decided variation)
Back Logo (optional): None planned, though there's room for it if Joe wants to add it!
Back Text (optional): Store Address, Phone #, repeat of website address.
All of the graphics on this are hand-rendered. No clip art was used.
Also, has anybody noticed that ALL of the shirt design categories are "optional"? I'm waiting for somebody to submit a plain black shirt ... it could be like the Digital Press version of "Smell the Glove" ... none more black.

I'm just throwing ideas out there. I've been trying to make the fronts and back interchangeable.
But damn...Frankie's got a nice design.

So far I like Oob's JOIN. #1 concept (also one of his originals with all the controllers). However Frankies is damn impressive I could see myself wearing that everyday. However maybe think of eliminating the Gaming = Llife text or get some other line in there because the current one just doesnt seem right. I would do some entries but honestly the competition is steep and the free time I have is little these days.

I love Join Us #1. I like that shirt because it gives the onlooker good idea of who we are and what we do, and I'd be proud to wear it. I think the controllers on the back of #1 are important because it gives the onlooker the idea of what it is we research, collect and play. But personally I'd lose the Xbox controller and make some room for an arcade machine. And I love the big bold atari controller on the front.
Frank's DaVinci shirt is a really cool piece of work, but I think the average onlooker won't recognize the game cartridges or really understand it.
Beyond that, I'd love an "eat communism" shirt.

A little grace period on account of I needed the day to recover from yesterday's get-together (I really need to start accounting for that). I'm officially locking the contest and will announce a winner by midnight tomorrow!
Nice job, folks. I truly appreciate the effort. Lots of creativity, it's going to be tough to pick just one out of this year's group.

Again, without seeing the picture, Frank's design might seem a little "out there", but WOW after seeing the picture, that's just something you'll always remember.
So how was I going to decide? Actually I didn't have to think about it too much once I had everything narrowed down to these two. I'm going to use Dustin's front design and Frank's design on the back. Now we've got the ultimate shirt!
So congrats Oobgarm AND Frankie_Says_Relax! You'll both get the full prize of course.
And THANK YOU to everyone who participated. You've all got great ideas and NEXT time we do this, I promise I will make the DP artwork and assets (fonts, color palette, etc) available to you so you can cut and paste and make the picture in your head translate a little better. It was obvious that those who provided conceptual art had an easier time of getting their idea across.
Give me a few weeks to get the two designs "synchronized", if you will, and this final art off to a printer (who may be a forum member as well, still working this bit out) and then stay tuned for the launch right here!

This thread lends some insight into the massive run-around/headache Joe has been going through over bringing these shirts to the DP public.
DP forum member xfrumx (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/member.php?u=8849) offered up his printing services, took Joe's money, and aside from a few public "Don't worry, the check's in the mail!" type responses, we've seen no sign of him or the promised printed shirts.
Poofta!

Unfortunately nobody gets anything until xfrumx gets his act together and delivers on the work he was paid to do ...
... or somebody directs Joe to a more reputable and affordable printing option.

Iv'e had $25 sitting in a cup bye my computer since this thread was created. Allthough I don't know how much they will cost, I do know that purchasing one would be a good way to show support for the DP forums and the community itself.
Cryin' shame someone has to frig' it up for the whole community. Ripping off the bossman? I mean seriously, who does that shiat?
Hopefully xfrumx does something to redeem himself.
@OOb & Frankie, really love the final design! Can't wait to play some MK and dribble my first beer on it! Good job guys.

I'm going to start looking into alternative printing companies ...
... not to air any more dirty laundry over this, but, Joe used an indie printer like xfrumx (who I believe had offered up his services) because he sincerely wanted to pass the savings along to the DP community.
Unfortunately, Joe is now out a chunk of money over this, and I'm not sure if he's willing to start over on the investment (and I wouldn't blame him) ...
... so, if I can find a printer that will print-on-demand 1 or more shirt at a time, (black shirt, front & back) how much would you all be willing to pay per shirt?
The Shawn
08-19-2008, 01:15 PM
Well I stated $25, only because that was how much I assumed they would be. Of course I have no Idea what an endeavor like this would cost just for the shirts and the printing cost alone. And seeing how Joe allready lost money on this situation...
Prob. as much as a concert tee would run, closer to $40. I'd buy one for that, if it comes right down to it.
IMHO anyway's.

That's great to hear! (Especially because I was having serious trouble finding an on-demand printer that would do front AND back on a black shirt.)
"Squeaky wheels" in action.
For the sake of the DP community who want to buy/order from this first batch, instead of my 4 "prize" shirts I was supposed to get as part of the winning design, I'll cut my share down to 2. (One for me, one for Lis.)

Should you want to go the Pay-per-shirt option. Check out Zazzle.com
I used them to buy a www.360voice.com (http://www.360voice.com) shirt (that was WAY WAY WAY customizable no less! fornt and back grpahics) and it was able to come in black (their default was white for that shirt that I ordered) and with my customization, black shirt and everything it was just a smidge over 20 bucks out the door.

Are you 100% certain that they can do front AND back printing on standard black shirts?
If so, that's certainly a viable option for an "on-demand" print run on these.
Also, Zazzle now does custom printing on KEDS canvas shoes! Imagine owning your own pair of Converse/Keds type Digital Press sneakers?!

I'm postive because my 'custom' shirt (which had custom text on the back) and custom text on the front (went to white text from the original black text it was designed for) was done quickly and it looked great.

Due to the renewed activity and interest in the shirts, if anybody would like to see the "2-color print-ready" modification to my design, here it is.
I had too many gradients that would have bumped up the overall time/cost of printing.
This is what the back of the printed shirt should look like:
