Genesis Fuzzy Sound

I have a model 1 genesis, one of the later ones with the redesigned board, and I'm getting fuzzy sound out of all of the outputs. I've tried RF, AV and the front headphone jack. The problem is with the system itself, not any of my connections or equipment. It's not a constant buzzing sound. It's most noticeable when there are higher pitched sounds. It sounds like speakers that have gone bad but I know this isn't the case. Is this a problem with the sound chip? Any other ideas?

yup. ive had bad AC adapters cause sound issues on model 1s before. sometimes it will do it even if the adapter is properly rated lol i had an adapter that went bad due to a popped capacitor, it would work fine on an NES but made the sound buzz in my genesis

My late model 1 is like this too, it's a bad design as SEGA chose cheaper parts.

You'll need to modify the audio output to fix this.

This flaw is on Model 2 genesis' also. (as the late model 1 and model 2 share the same basic design)

ohh yeah, i heard thet they used cheaper clones of the sound chips in the later ones

Well, actually the clone has better sound than the original.

But a modification has to be made to the mixing circuit in the Genesis, to even hear it.

This mod has been done on the Model 2, but could be adapted for the LATE Model 1 if you know how to.

It's not a constant buzzing sound

This is not the kind of buzzing you would expect from a bad power supply. I have several other Genesis' using the same power supply that do not do this.

I suppose I'll just give up on it. It's not really worth my time or effort to mod it.

If it buzzes depending on whats on the screen, it's a 60Hz hum as the video chip and sound chip share the same dye...

So, THAT particular issue is not fixable.

It doesn't depend on what's on screen. The best I can describe it is that the higher frequency sounds don't sound clear. If the sound stays in the low to mid range it's not very noticeable, but as soon as it gets higher you can hear a fuzzy almost crackly sound.

That's what I was saying before, it's a poorly designed mixing circuit.

But then you said "buzzing" sound, that would be the 60/50Hz hum, which IS there mind you, it always is because sound and video are in the same dye.
