View Full Version : The Right Time to Buy GBA
GBA is one of my favorite systems and I've spent hundreds on the different variations, but have yet to pick up an SP2. I get the feeling that they won't drop the price below $80 and the systems will eventually vanish from stores, as they seem to be doing. Should I buy a few now or wait? I really want to swap my NES SP screen with an SP2 screen. Thanks to all

yeah, you might want to get one now, if you want to buy it at retail. With the GBA games being discontinued, I wouldn't think the systems would be around much longer. You could hope to catch a store clearance, and maybe they'll be $50 or something, but I don't think you'll see them in bargain bins for $20 or anything.
I think the lowest the PS1 got was $50 at retail too before they disappeared.

If you love the GBA and have yet to buy one, I suggest you do now even if they don't disappear anytime soon. The brighter screen is great, and is the best way to play GBA games in my opinion, unless you use a GameBoy Player.

Why get one new if you're just going to take it apart anyway?

yeah, that was what I was thinking. Go to gamestop and get a used one if you don't want to keep a new one.
Thanks to all who responded.
I have multiple GBAs, I'd like to pick up a few GBA SP2s before they're gone, new if possible. I like new hardware, especially when it comes to handhelds, I demand screens to be in perfect condition.
Thanks again

Hey RCM, let me know how that screen swap works out. I'd like to do the same to my NES SP one day. :)

Same here it would be nice............. Go to gamestop, take it home, swap screens, take it back within the right amount of time to get a full refund. hahahahaha just kidding

Someone on DP did this a long time ago, I'm just late getting around to it.

Yeah, I been wanting to do a swap since the SP2's came out. This is what happens when you mix procrastination and apathy with slacking off... you get, me. :p
Shame on you for posting that frum. *tsk tsk* Kudos when you actually do it though. LOL

I keep checking for Circuit City and Best buy to lower prices on games, but no such luck.

I know what you mean about new hardware, but with the SP, the screen itself is behind a plastic guard, so there's very little chance of damage, even on a used one.
If you want to reuse the SP2 shell with your old SP screen after the swap, then I can see why you'd want a new one that's in good condition, though.

I wonder if it's possible to stuff an SP2 screen into an original GBA shell. I love my SP2, but dang it...the compact size cramps my hands up.
