I bought an aquarium starter kit, a Betta, two Dawn Platy's, 4 under water plants, and a little roman arch for my fish to swim in.
Yay! I have a betta in my 10 gallon tank...he loves swimming around and chasing other fish. Just don't worry if he acts funny...mine likes to hang in the water like he's dead, or lay on the bottom on his side breathig heavy after he eats. Bettas are very quirky in a normal aquarium.
You definitely need a few more fish tho! Once your tank is cycled, I'd add a few small tetras, maybe Harlequin Rasboras or Priscilla Tetras, and maybe either a swordtail or two, or a molly or two. Swordtails and platties can breed together, so maybe you'll get babies too!
Can you tell I like my fish??

I thought Betta's were extremely agressive towards other fish? I had read that you had to keep them seperate from the others, to keep them from killing off their roomates.

Not true. You have to keep them away from other Bettas, male or female, but not from other fish. And it depends on the fish...some are very vicious, some are quite docile. They have a lot of personality, and it REALLY varies from fish to fish, but you can put one in a community tank..just not more than one Betta :)
Mine is quite friendly to the other fish in the tank..and there are about 15. He chases them a bit, but not much and doesn't nip at em.

Awesome....when I move into my own place again next year, I want to get a tank and some fish. I've been thinking about this for awhile, because, when I was younger, we had a huge fish tank, always stocked with them, and I miss that. Anyway, your info has really helped me out....any other tips you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and also, if you happen to know, how compatible are Bettas with Angel Fish? I only ask because we had a lot of those when I was a kid, and I'd like to get some again.

Not really a find, but I finally got around to fixing that Intellivision that my friend gave me. It works great now, and has the voice module and about 20 games, including Space Spartans, which I hear is pretty cool. Also got my Coleco working again, so I'm having marathon sessions of H.E.R.O. and Zaxxon between bouts of Vice City.
