Mystery Cart got be Suspended on Atari Age [Archive]

Due to the Mystery Cart which some of you have already received, I have been Suspended by Atari Age either temporarily or Permanently:

I was banished before I could reply to either Al's pm or to the thread.

Everyone who has received the Mystery Cart so far is happy with it.

So those of you who bought this Mystery release have the cart that got me banned from Atari Age. You have a little piece of Atari homebrew history.

I have emailed Al to find out exactly the reasons my account was suspended and why I was not allowed a response on the forums and to his Pm.

Al has alway been fair with me in the past, so hopefully we are able to get beyond this Green Monster Cart.(hint to identity of cart)

It should be my choice who I work with and don't work with to come out with a release. As far as I know, most of us live in free countries that allow self determination.

For those of you who may receive emails or/and pms calling to blacklist me, I hope you will ignore these and deal with me based on your previous dealings with me.

From reading the thread, AL first replied about the topic , then later asked if someone could fill him in on the content of the Atari Mystery Cart. Assuming someone did and he decided that was enough to banish you.

So why not fill us all in on exactly what the mysery cart was, how much did it cost and what is the content?

It would be tough to judge without that information.....

I want the release to be a surpise for those who have not received it yet, so I can't comment on specifics other than the cart and manual is a work of parody and fiction and is not intended to be taken seriously and everyone who has gotten a cart does not take it seriously and gets a good laugh out of it.

Al an I are in email contact now so hopefully we can get beyond this. He unfortunately was recently given some misinformation by an unknown source about the game.

Now that all of the "mystery" carts have been produced and shipped, why not fully divulge what the game/hack that was on there was?

Your continued desire to be publicly cryptic about the contents of the cartridge makes me (and likely others more closely involved in this) think that the contents were some type of copyrighted material that you weren't licensed to sell.

Also, why wouldn't you just describe what was on there in support of your side of things? UNLESS you really had something to hide/it would clearly show your guilt in the matter I can't see any reason to not explain the situation (even if you were selling a hacked rom ... which, I know Atari Age used to allow and participate in, but then began frowning upon the practice years ago).

Bad enough to get Atari Charles banned. It's not's just the content of the game that got him banned. He's been skating on thin ice for a long time...Albert had enough with his latest stunt. I can't comment further at this time.

I remember maybe 5-6 years ago, they used to have lots of rom hacks - like more "arcade accurate" versions of Pac-Man and Space Invaders with carts/labels/packages for sale in their "store" section ... but then they got some kind of injunction from the copyright holders to remove them ... I can't remember if that announcement was made on the site or I read it on some other news feed.

Or was that just some crazy dream I had?

Correct. Those games you refer to (some of which were homebrews, not hacks) are no longer sold in the AtariAge store for copyright reasons. That has nothing to do with individual members like Atari Charles selling whatever hacks they've created, which happens fairly regularly.

For those who do not have the cartridge, it is a hack of a Data Age game about preventing Hozer Video Games from putting a bunch of bootleg carts on eBay and "that if the player is successful AtariAge would be happy". The manual contains a complete copy of a ridiculous "manifesto" against AtariAge (and others) that Hozer put up on his website recently. The cartridges were manufactured by Randy Crihfield (Hozer Video Games).

The content was a mystery that you ruined by opening that thing you call a mouth. I wanted to preserve the mystery to make it fun for everyone. Luckily most people have received their packages. There were people on Atari Age who didn't want anyone to reveal what the cart was as they wanted to be surprised. Others who already received the cart, were respectful and decent enough not to say what the cart was. That was of course until you came along.

Al is not God even though you may think so. Al did an amazing thing with Atari Age, but he is a human being. Not a sympathetic ear? I actually found it hillarious that I would be banned for something as silly as a video game. Boo hoo!

honestly, this is kinda turning into a pissing match, but regardless of that here's some objective points of observation I see.

1. AtariCharles created a hack of a game called the Mystery Cart to sell. This is done all the time at Atariage , no biggie, nothing to get banned about

2. AA, itself still sells Hacks, so I doubt that's what got Atari Charles banned/suspended

3. Some people over at AA are not that fond of Atari Charles anyway because they think the $100 Tron Guy cart and such are ridiculous and overpriced.so it's not like some people didn't already have it out for him.

4. The cart has some satire, that was probably not appreciated by Al, but really the game, from what I hear doesn't infringe on any Homebrew IP. It does however stoke some old fires about Hozer Vs AA. Now, I'm gonna assume this game was produced by Atari Charles and not Hozer as someone alluded to. If Al thought it was made by Hozer....that combined with the unfavorable light the cart would show AA in, is probably just pissed Al off to the point of banning/suspending Atari Charles.

5. Atariage is a private entity and can decide on it's membership. The only reason I see for a post over here, is that Atari charles can respond here and a lot of the same people will see that response. As for motive for the post. It could be to rant, it could be just to explain the situation, or it could be to stir up crap between the 2 sites again. Really, I don't mind the explaination reason, and I'd hope it's not to just stir the pot.

Well I have a copy and am not a member at AA and dont frequest the site, so I am glad it was posted here (and cgcc) so I could get a bit more info/history on the game that I own and the person who made it. It adds to the whole experience imo. No regrets

The game not only involved Hozer, but the cartridges themselves were made by Hozer. Atari Charles was warned not to go there...not to make anything involving Hozer, DP, or anything else that would rekindle old flames (satire or not). He blatantly ignored that warning and was purposely evasive about the nature of the game. There isn't much more to say. This has nothing to do with DP, and there was no reason for AC to come here and bitch publically if he sought to resolve this privately (as he claims).

---There is laughable satire in the game and manual and a beautiful Poem on the first page of the manual about Randy(Hozer). The game isn't meant to be taken seriously but as a fun game that the player can get a laugh out of. The game mostly pokes fun at Randy a he is the main bad guy in the game. The game was a joint release. Hozer did manufacture the carts and I believe this is his first joint limited release. I co-operated with Hozer which made me worse than the Taliban in the Atari 2600 universe.

Like you, whatever 'sanctions' Randy has faced he has brought upon himself.

It wasn't just you working with Hozer. It was you working with Randy on a game involving Hozer after Albert specifically warned you against it. He questioned you about the nature of the game and you were deceptive...you lied. You also used AtariAge as a vehicle to spread Randy's bullshit and lies. You also came over here to DP simply for the purposes of causing a public scene instead of keeping the matter private.

That is why you're banned.

Since when are administrators required to give people notice before they're banned? You could have gotten into contact with Al via email...there's no reason for you to post on the boards...especially not over here on DP.
