I was just thinking about this game the other day. I never got to play it before and was thinking of purchasing it. Didnt think it would be that expensive.

What about the genesis version? Does that have as high a price tag?

Wow, I think Boogerman was going for $5-$15 as early as 2 years ago.... I saw three eBay auctions in the 30's... whoa. It's not rare, that's for sure, but it isn't a common game, either. I'd say uncommon. I got mine at a flea market in 2006 for $5. The Genesis version goes for much less than the SNES version.

The Genesis version goes for much less than the SNES version.
Funny how that seems to be the case with just about every cross-platform 16-bit game.

The last time I saw a copy in the wild, it was a cart only copy of the Genesis version, priced at $10. Then again, this was at a place that has been known to sell SMB/DH for $10.
I'd say that the case with Boogerman is the same as a few other games that can go for anywhere from $3 to $40 depending on the day.

Rarity aside (though I still own a complete copy for the Genesis), I think Boogerman is one of those overlooked platforming gems of the 16-bit era. Whereas Earthworm Jim was unabashedly wacky, it seemed to show a little restraint with its toilet humor, while Boogerman went all out on both. I guess I was at just the right age to really appreciate this game (and EWJ), being about 10 years old when it first came out. I loved the fact that you could fly by farting, hock loogies and flick boogers at your enemies and still think toilet humor in general is underrepresented in gaming.
With rarity considered, I think I'll have to ask my coworker for the copy I loaned him back.
edit: It's worth noting that Amazon is often a poor indicator of something's true value. eBay completed listings are more accurate, though they're still prone to sudden waves of popularity and notoriety. It seems like the first person to list something out of print on Amazon really dictates the price unless later sellers know better (and they generally don't).

Wow. I am just amazed. There are two loose SNES coppies going for $46 (2d 21h 11m left) and $36 (1d 29m left) shipped, and yet here's a complete, nice copy for the Genesis for $6 (19h 40m left) shipped. Someone is selling the Prima strategy guide for $37 in their store. I like my Genesis cart-only but feel bad about not picking up those SNES carts I pass on because "I already have the Genesis release."

i used to really like that game. i rememeber i let a female friend of mine in college "borrow" the game and i was extremely busy at the time with student teaching. anyway, i lost touch with her and i graduated and moved back home. its funny because my wife is slightly more irritated than i am about not having this game anymore. anyway, looks like i'll be picking up a genesis version.
