I know the PS2 port recently came out. I was thinking of picking this up. Sadly I have never played a single Silent Hill game. So, compared to the other SH games, how does it stack up? Also is this series pretty similar to Resident Evil?

Compared to the other games, this is by far the most difficult. You have to learn how to run from most enemies, weapons break, and the puzzles are harder. This game was actually developed by Climax, who like to make mind-breaking puzzles. (Alundra, Landstalker, ect.)

I'm about halfway through the game on PSP, and while I'm enjoying it, I'd personally recommend picking up Silent Hill 2 & 3 on PS2 if you're looking for a good beginning experience with the series.

Silent Hill 4 is drastically different from anything else in the series, but good in it's own way, and Silent Hill Origins has it's charms but as mentioned above is certainly harder in terms of weapon usage.

I would say at least play SH1 first, since Origins reflects on the events that happen in it, things will be easier to understand that way.

I was thinking about picking Origins up for the PS2 because I don't have a PSP. And thanks for the heads up on the new breakable sucky weapons.

The breakable weapons really isn't that big of a deal, there are enough around than you'd know what to do with and it's even less of a problem if you only fight when you absolutely have to.

Yeah, but in the first Silent Hill I pretty much killed everything that moved. The only thing I ran from were those flying mutant bat creatures. I like clearing an area/room of all enemies. That way they won't be there if I have to backtrack...or atleast thats how it works in theory.

Haha, large bosses become regular enemies right after you fight them. You won't be killing everything the first time through. Its a blast so far.
