I have every system known, well....almost, but not PS2. For some stupid reason, I can't stand to pay $199.00 when superior systems, no names here, are going for the same or even less. I have even been buying the games I want to play on PS2, but have no console!

What's the guess, when is Sony going to drop the price so I can finally buy one and rest? I would have thought a month or two ago, but no go....

Most say before the Electronics Expo, but DAMN, that is just around the corner...!

What does anyone else think?? Is the PS2 really worth $199.00 for inferior technology, or should I wait a little bit longer????

There are rumors before almost every E3 that a hardware price drop is to be announced, but this year's rumor of Sony dropping the PS2 to $149 is quite plausible; it's roughly the point in the PS2's lifespan for a price drop to take place anyway, and Sony just announced the redesigned/cheaper-to-make PS2 console with enhanced DVD playback, a quieter fan, and no mo' iLink port.

Since you've waited this long, might as well wait another month and see what Sony says at the Big Shoe.

I would think a PS2 price drop would make sense just about now, especially when you consider the recent Xbox price drop in Europe. Sure, Sony's been number one for a while, but they've still got to stay in the game!

I fully expect a drop this year for the PS2. I'm hoping that Microsoft shocks the world with a price drop to 99 dollars. I would then have no reason at all to pick up a second xbox to modify into a media/mame player.

Well, I bought one at $299 and so far it's still getting far less use than my Dreamcast or Saturn. I wish I'd waited, but your mileage may vary.

The Xbox may hit $99 eventually, but certainly not this year or next, for many reasons. Remember that Microsoft's already taking a bath on hardware sales at $199; dropping to $149, which they'll have to do in response to Sony, will be punishing. If the Xbox dropped to $99 right now, no one would be more shocked than livid Microsoft shareholders.
