pokemon battery

hi, we are an amsterdam based vintage videogames shop, and we have a question about a problem we often have.
a lot of pokemon cartridges for the classic gameboy have battery faillure.
we tried to get them out, and replace them, but we can't get them out!
they seem to be welded, and not solded(which would be easier).
a dummy faq would be great, we are not too technical:D
please help!!!

You just have to pry them off and solder a replacement on. It's as simple as that.

i've tried that, but it would'nt hold, it fell off immediately.

I replaced my Pokemon battery a couple weeks ago. I just pried it out and then put a new one in and bombarded it with electrical tape. No problems yet.

That's also the best solution.

Just put the battery back on the board and put two pieces of electrical tape on it and you will be fine. You dont have to do all that replacing and soldering just tape works fine.

your best bet is to buy maxell brand (because theyre solderable) cr2025's then desolder the battery from the pokemon board (the solder is at the board, not on the battery) then use pliers to pull the metal tabs off the battery. these can be soldered to the new battery, but be very careful because if you start to smell a sharp tangy smell it means you've ruined the battery and you have to try again with a new one. it doesnt take much to ruin it. if you apply some solder to both sides of the tab where it will attach to the battery, it will help with conducting the heat. don't get the battery too hot, and don't reassemble the cart until the battery is cold, the other half of the cart applies a little pressure, and can break the battery seal as it is semi fluid when hot.

i'e done probably about 40 or 50 carts, with another 5 waiting on the desk in front of me as im typing now. theyre almost always pokemon games and the ones that arent are either pirate or have been in somebody's drink.

ebay has maxell batteries cheap usually in lots of 10 or 20

(i actually do it slightly differently to that these days, but my new way is a bit harder to explain without pictures, and isnt any easier, it just saves time.)
