i've been playing this game online some recently...it's rare for me to play a modern game, but my roommate has been into it so it got me started, and it's pretty fun actually.

does anyone else think that the game would be much better without grenades? I don't know if it's me, but it seems like you are likely to randomly die at any given time because people seem to be TOO good at throwing grenades. it really defeats the fun of a gunfight when they can just lob a grenade and be done with it.

i also think that there should be an option to turn off airstrikes. the helicopter i don't mind as much, but airstrikes seem cheap. if there is an option to turn them off, pardon my ignorance. as my profile says, i'm just a simple caveman.

I have to say I don't agree with there being an option to remove the grenades or air stikes, I will agree with the fact that, they can be annoying, they are a part of the game, just like any other weapon, and while they can be annoying, trust me I know, it sucks, but the better you get and the more grenade and airstrike kills you get, you might feel a little bit of vengance, maybe, just maybe.

Snipers piss me off as well. Mostly because I'm not that good at being a sniper.
But it is part of the game and I take pre-caustions to avoid getting sniped. I do think that you should be given a set of binoculars to find those damn snipers. :)
Personally though, if I get sniped, I remember the location and then I sneak up behind him and slice his rear end off. Or... at least I try.

Fun stuff. Gernades? Eh? I don't think you can take them out of the game. I like them occasionally. I like sneaking up behind someone and cooking a grenade just to throw it at them in the last second.

The one thing I hate... but it is part of the game.... when I'm shooting a sniper and someone gets me from the side WHILE I'm engaged in combat already. Sucks

Airstrikes are the answer to campers. I like the grenades for campers as well, but dont mind having a mode of deathmatch without grenades.

It's all part of the game, so use them :) They dont really account for too much of my deaths... you can have a custom match though without them but no points from it obviously.

I don't know...I really like grenades in online FPS's. The CoD4 grenade-centric "Martyrdom" perk is simultaneously the greatest and most frustrating FPS developement in years. I've grown so accustomed to it that when I play other FPS's, I wait for my body to blow up after I die.

I love grenades in most FPS games but I really hate them in COD4. They account for way too many cheap deaths. They wouldn't be as annoying though if it wasn't for the Martyrdom perk which lets you automatically drop a live grenade every time you die. Almost EVERYONE you play against uses it and it's really annoying on games like Headquarters where you're defending small indoor areas.

I wish they had an option for the host to turn grenades off, like in Rainbow Six Vegas. Another thing I can't stand about the COD4 grenades is that they never get enough time to throw live ones back. They always blow up in my hand before I have a chance to toss it back.

That's because people are "cooking" them before they throw them so you don't get time. If you just throw one, you'll have time as long as you don't delay, usually unless the grenade is right under you however, it's just best to run.

I know about cooked grenades but even martyrdom grenades that are dropped right next to you are almost impossible to throw away in time. If I do manage to throw it, it usually blows up within 5-10 feet of me and kills me anyway or at the very least, take away most of my health.

The throwback feature in COD4 just seems really useless. Most people will just run away from grenades anyway instead of risk throwing it back.

I think all FPS's are going to have a weapon that seems unfair, I can remember back on the N64 Perfect Dark pissing all of my friends off with the Rail Gun and even Socom 2-3 I pissed off all kinds of people for using the RPG, I would just tell them "It's not cheating if it's a weapon programmed into the game, instead of getting all pissed try to find a strategy for it" that's what gaming is all about.

As for "Martyrdom" in COD4, I suggest learning to snipe since it'll keep you away from the explosion.

interesting thoughts, everyone. one other question:

is there some kind of "perk" that causes you to release a grenade upon death? i don't know how much times i killed someone, only to have a grenade appear from their corpse and kill me.

Yeah, it's called the Martyrdom perk. You unlock it at level 16.

With a bunch of people lobbing grenades, using the Grenade Launcher, and Martyrdom, some games have a stupid amount of grenades being tossed around to avoid (or usually unable to avoid)

I recommend playing hardcore, martyrdom is a no-no in hardcore and grenade use is a lot less prevalent. I found that there are on average better, more mature players in hardcore, plus it's an awesome game mode :)

I was playing a game on wetwork earlier today, it seemed like everyone had extra frags. You couldn't go 5 ft without getting plowed by a stray grenade. At one point, i had 5 grenade indicators on my screen.

Aside from that game, i haven't really had too many issues with the 'nades.

Everyone was probably using the "3 frag. grenades" perk. 2nd best perk in the game (besides Martyrdom).

Martyrdom is garbage, just gonna toast yer team with it. Unless yer in the kiddy pool and dont play hardcore.

Yes Random grenade kills can be annoying but its mainly by people that know the map and lob from far away into the path they predict the enemy to pass through. Just be unpredictable use a roundabout path. In a narrow map like the ship say in search and destroy just hold back chill in the spawn for 15 seconds before moving out and enjoy the BOOM BOOM BOOM as the enemy wastes their unreplenishable ordinance.

I find snipers that camp annoying but they can be dealt with.
