Browsing Play Asia and found this:

Anyone read this? can it be found cheaper? seems like an interesting read though, just wondering if its worth $40.

I recieved it for christmas about a year ago, and it's a great read. It's fully worth the $40 in my honest opinion. It's very well written and covers a lot of ground. It has a lot of information on computers, even the most obscure.
I'd suggest checking Amazon's "check new/used for under $X.XX", I've found some great deals on books there in the past.
Four stars for the thing if you ask me.

I picked up a new copy off ebay for around $25 shipped. :)
Here is another for around the same price.

It's an excellent book with great pictures. It has a lot of computer systems in it too so it's not just consoles if that matters. Well worth reading in the bathroom but it's not an encyclopedia in the traditional sense.

This book is great! I got it several years ago from the AtariAge booth at the OCGE. It covers almost every system (Console and Computer) and goes into a lot of detail about each one. I also has a really nice layout and screenshots.
But the thing that I love most about this book is the way it smells!!! Seriously... I'm not joking. Crack open the book and stick your nose to the page. It smells FREAKING AWESOME!!!
After reading about the Atari STE and Amiga 1200 in this book I hit up ebay and bought em'. I don't know if I ever would have been interested in them if not for this book.
It's an OK book for a German book, he did his research very well. But giving the VCS only 3 stars and the PC Engine 5, is inexcusable.
His other book Joysticks is awful. Many important sticks missing, eg VCS jogging mat, the Milton Bradley controllers, Relax controller... etc...
Here's the original German cover, with Commodore as the main computer picture, whereas the UK version featured the Spectrum.

Very good book indeed, but there are 2 prints; the second one has many more pages.

Hey that's true, here's a bad picture of the old (first) version:
This is an awesome book, I just got it for Christmas. But two things bother me.
1.) They cover so many systems, even Japan or Europe-only systems, and computers too. But no RCA Studio II? Mind boggling.
2.) They repeatidly list the Sega Master System as coming to the US in 1987. Everyone knows it's 1986.

I've had the book a while and it is quite brilliant, I recommend it to anyone.
EDIT: for anyone interested, here (http://www.gameplan.de/gameplan_01.5_UK/gameplan_01.5_UK_p002-p003.pdf) is a scan of the contents page. :)
