I picked up 2 cabinets today, the one is a mega touch and the other one the guy said was a joust cabinet converted to a poker game. I have a Super Pacman cab already I was going to convert to MAME, but now my plans have changed a little.
The converted Joust cab I'm going to convert into an all out MAME 2 player 6 button spinner trackball etc.etc.etc. and now my Super Pacman I'm going to convert to a 1 player 2 joystick 2 button setup with all vertical games (A classic cabinet pretty much). Eventually (way down the road) I'd like to make the mega touch into a jukebox.

I have a question about the bill acceptor, the converted Joust cab has a hole cut into the coin door for a bill acceptor, so I was going to take it out of the mega touch and put it into the Joust cab. My question is, is there any way you could run the acceptor on MAME? I ask because if not then I'm just going to buy a new door with both coin mech's on it.

Here's some pics of the 2 cabs I got:

Oh and I forgot to mention I got both of these for $40 and he dropped them off at my house:cool:

Is all that going to fit on that joust panel?

If that Super Pacman is intact or easily restorable, you might want to keep that conversion job a secret from the interwebs. You're likely to get jumped on when you show it off.

Or, don't convert it at all.

It's not at all cool to hack up classics for MAME. If that Super Pac is in decent shape, you should just sell it and find a generic cab for your project. You will probably come out ahead with the money made, and a standard vertical JAMMA cab will be a far better choice for a classic cab. You can simply buy a 48-in-1 board, plug it in, and start playing.

As far as the Joust, it's sad to see what someone did to that cab. Overall, the cab looks to be in solid condition. I would say that you ought to try to return it to it's former glory, but it looks like it's pretty far gone. Did that paint come off easily? If so, you might try to strip the sides too. There could be a decent cab under that mess.

I'm in agreement with XYXZYZ though, there's no way you're going to fit all that stuff on the Joust panel. Again, a standard Jamma cab would probably be a better starting point for a MAME project.

Sigh... poor Joust

The Super Pacman cab would stay intact, I wasn't going to paint over it or even change the marquee, I even wanted to find the original control panel to it and use that. But I may be selling it, the guy who brought over the 2 cabs saw it and told me he knows a guy who restores old Pacman games and sells them. So if the guy is willing to get it out of my house it's his, I'd feel better anyways knowing it got rightfully restored.

After really looking at the control panel on the joust cab you guys are right, I can't fit all that onto it. 2 player 6 buttons will fit but that's it. I could probably put a spinner on the front side but I think that would be more of a annoyance.

After looking really close to the sides you can tell it's been plastered to hell and there's quite a few coats of paint on it and the control panel is completely shot. The marquee just had black spray paint on it so it was really easy to take off. Eventually I'll put the marquee up for sale since I won't have any use for it.

This is my first cab I've ever done, if I could do it I would make a cabinet completely from scratch but I'm lacking the tools and wood skills. So I could only use what I find. But who knows if this guy really wants the Pacman cab maybe he'll have something better I could really use he's willing to trade off. I'll just have to wait and see.

Are you looking at a MAME vert cab, or a multigame? The 48-in-1 boards offer a great value and a nice selection of games. If you keep the Super Pac, I would recommend going that route. You can get a JAMMA conversion harness (http://cgi.ebay.com/SUPER-PAC-MAN-TO-JAMMA-ADAPTER_W0QQitemZ290214109308QQihZ019QQcategoryZ13 718QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) and not have to gut the cab. This will make it easy to convert back in the event that you decide to sell the cab.

Sorry I didn't post a picture of the Super Pacman cab, I'm about to head off to work but I'll post it tonight.

I bought the cabinet already completely gutted, it's just the cab, marquee and no control panel or back door. Artwork is in "decent" shape. I'll post a pic when I have some time hopefully tonight.
