I've never heard of anything quite like what you are describing. Then again, I've never worked on that particular machine. In my experience, redemption is set up one of two ways.
1. It is just a difficulty setting, doesn't matter how much cash you dump, it is just "x" hard to win.
2. It is percentage based on how much money is spent before it pays out. This setup sounds more like what you're describing, but usually these settings are for a piece like a Lighthouse, or a Stacker where you are actually handing out a prize rather than tickets.
In otherwords, if I am giving you an Ipod, I want to make absolutely sure I am being paid for it first, so on my Stacker, it will be set that after, say, $300 is spent, then you'll have a CHANCE to win the Ipod (if your timing is ok). Anything less than that dollar figure, you're basically S.O.L.
So, to answer your question, yes I suppose there IS in fact an auto-loss "feature" on a redemption piece, but not usually for tickets.
