Agetec is bringing a new game to the Nintendo DS this May that is exclusively local mutiplayer! LOLing yet? Yes, the name of the game is LOL, and here's how it plays. One of the players in the room writes up a crazy challenge on their DS, sets a time limit, and then the other players in the room use words and pictures to answer the challenge, with the whole group voting on the winner who then goes on to the next challenge.
This the dumbest name I ever heard of for a game in a long time.
What is next for giving games names? Hopefully a game will not be called LMAO, or ROFL.

the game actually sounds like it'd be fun, but who honestly would pay for that? i mean, the article says it best- you can buy pens and paper and only be out the cost of the pens instead of this game.

I find that any game that requires a certain amount of effort and/or an unusually high number of components to be assembled tend to be more hassle than they're worth.
A good example is the few GCN/GBA games that required link ups to take full advantage of them. What are the odds you're going to get four friends, each with both a GBA and system link cable, together on an even semi-regular basis to play a game? It's just not practical.
Games like LOL are destined to to either collect dust or sit for cheap in a used game bin. People will buy it for the 20 minute novelty and realize that there's really no further value to the game because they never get a chance to actually use it.
Too many developers have this mental image of people walking around with their DSes just waiting to play a game with strangers who also happen to be walking with DSes. That scenario just doesn't happen often enough to justify building games around it.

Wasn't there a title for the JPN Dreamcast with the same title? LOL: Lack of Love, or something like that?
And it seems ASCII made it before changing their name to Agetec...

I dunno, we used to have a bunch of people get together to play Tetris DS - pick up and play titles are fun - particularly if they're cheap enough.

i googled it, guess what i found? this thread.
7th lutz: stop being a hater.
the name is fine, game concept is ridiculous, this NEEDS to be wifi multiplayer to be remotely viable. they should rework it. or at least sell the game in bundles of 2 or something.

Upon seeing the title, my first thought was "AgeTec's still in business?" Upon reading this, my first thought is "Not for long."

If you and your friends already have a DS and are close enough to have lcal multiplayer, just use Pictochat.

Wow. I never even thought of that. So Agetec is pretty much selling something that is included on the DS already.

So we had WTF for PSP, and now LOL for DS. So, when are we getting a "LULZ" and what system will it be on?

Its just a localization of the japanese game Archime DS, pretty much an upgraded pictochat.

It doesn't seem like much of a game to me. There's no way they won't make a profit on a game they really didn't have to do much development to create.
