I was browsing CheapAssGamer when I found this thread (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170816); it details all the $30 three game packs released in the US. It didn't seem like anything was out of the ordinary, or at least it wasn't for me, until last Saturday.
I was at a local store in my hometown (Mexicali, Mexico) waiting for a friend, and I was browsing their games... when I noticed a Mortal Kombat three-game set for the PS2. I was surprised, because I hadn't heard of it at all. So, I decided to see if I could find it in a store in the USA, and there's no trace of it anywhere!
eBay doesn't have a copy. Amazon doesn't have it listed at all! The only place where I found a copy online was Mercado Libre (http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-19910618-mortal-kombat-the-thrilogy-ps2-nuevos-_JM) (a Mexican auction site), which is odd because the box I saw had English text and it even had an import sticker on the plastic wrapping. One of the pictures in that auction has some text in Spanish.
Anyway, my question is - is this some sort of Latin America only release? It seems very odd that this never made it to the USA at all. I'd like to buy it eventually, but I don't want to pay $55 USD for this set. :P

What truly confuses me when looking for the pics on that auction is that the text on the back is in spanish while the title is in English. Also, 3 disk on just one case? There are words missing punctuations too. It doesn't look legit for me but I hope to be wrong.

You're wrong; this is a cardboard box with all three games in their own individual DVD cases, just like the other collections that have been released.
Also, the typos on the back of the box... well, what do you expect? American companies don't really care about proper localization. :p
I've got to go to that store during the week and I'll go and see if the box matches this one. It's just incredibly strange for this to not show up in the USA...

No freakin' clue what that is. Maybe it's something we'll see a bit later down the road. If you get a look at one, do note the SLUS numbers on the spines of the DVD cases. Those could be helpful.

The pics provided by the seller were probably just scans for the insert of one of the games or the cardboard box art, there was not any indication of a cardboard box in the auction as well, so I made the assumptions based on that.

I intend to do that. I have to go to city hall to pay our property tax for the year, and the store is a few blocks away, so I'll go there tomorrow after returning from the flea market.

i see no reason whatsoever to care or get this. all three games are available seperately for very little cash. i think we'll see this in the usa soon enough, but at 55$ its ridiculous.

This is the Mexican price, after import and sales tax. The set probably costs $30 before all those taxes are applied.

but these games arent really that good..
i still think we'll see them eventually, but if not, it wont be missed.

True, the games suck, but you know how collectors can get. ;)

There's one thing that doesn't make sense to me; where is MK Deadly Alliance? It would make much more sense to be a part of this 3-pack, seeing as it's actually part of the PS2 MK trilogy, along with Deception and Armageddon. Shaolin Monks was just a side-story to MK2.

So did you get it? I want to know if i should waste my time looking for it yet, as long as its ntsc, since i do collect ps2 games.

No, sorry, I haven't been able to go to the store yet. I've been busy. I'll probably go tomorrow though.
Oh, this is an NTSC|U release - Mexico has the same PS2 region as the USA and Canada... considering most of us buy the system and import it, well. :P

yes, but the SLUS # will tell us all kinds of good info as to when this came out (if it came out legitimately).
I'm happy i've pretty much stopped buying PS2 games for now as I was really not looking forward to going after variants and the like.

PapaStu, you act like you own alot or most ps2 games, do you? (got a list if you own a large collection)
I'm at a modest 709 at the moment, i got slowed down alot when i started going after demos.
Know a list for variants? I only collect ntsc ps2 games and demos, just in case the variants you know of are pal, japan, etc.

That's not modest, that's pretty damn awesome. I recently broke 400 and there's not too many more that I'm interested in picking up. Really, I'm not sure if I'll ever hit 450. :(

*facepalm*
This item was imported from the US of A, it's definitely legit. I'll take a notepad to write down the details, because I don't think the store clerks will let me take pictures of the thing. :P

According to my personal list i've got 433 PS2 games before variants (only a handful), Demos (200+) and Online Betas (11). Not the end all be all of PlayStation 2 collections, but add that to my PSOne collection (which is much bigger and my primary focus) and i've got a lot of PlayStation stuff. No its not everything, but since I made a choice to attempt to be with someone a few years back (cross country travel isn't cheap) and then moved out there, money went to much more important things, got married and we recently moved back out west and housing in California isn't cheap. If I was still buying like I used to buy a few years ago I'd be well over 700 PS2 games, but again, I wasn't coming close to playing them and I think I'm in a better place now anyhoo. Besides I still buy other systems like mad (DS) and play other ones way more than I play my PS2's (360/DS).
I don't know of any full on places that have tracked all the variants, but i've always just kept a little note file in my head and when I do see things I pass them along to Oobgarm who does the PS2 list here.

Well, this sucks. They ran out of copies! I spoke to a clerk, who confirmed that htey had the game - which was originally priced at $570 pesos (around $52 dollars). But then he said "Oh, but we lowered the price to $300 ($27 dollars) and we sold all our copies at that price!" He also said that they had four copies. :(
So it IS a legitimate release, at least. I found another auction at MercadoLibre (http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-19930201-_JM) today. I'll keep looking, maybe some store here has the game...

Good news @_@
I was browsing buy.com today and found this....

So it looks like it will be much easter to find pretty soon. Now lets hope for a DBZ box set in the USA someday.
