After 15 years i have finally acquired a game that i have wanted to play since it came out. I remember when this game came out on the Sega Cd i had a SNES and a Genesis system. I could not afford a Sega CD at that time but always would pick up the box and salivate over it in the video store. I also did this with the Lunar games.
So i started playing it very anxiously and am a little bit disappointed. I guess i was doomed to be disappointed because of all the hype and anticipation i put on this game.
For those of you have played it, are the sound effects lacking in this game or what? No sound when you enter battle. The sound of the sword hitting an enemy sound horrible and i just find that all of actions in the game are missing sound effects.
Am i missing something and does the game get better as you play?

Nope, I find Vay incredibly boring and not worth the hype.

I second that. Very cookie cutter, even back then.

I never gave it more than a few hours when I got it...
Not much of a game.

I never really heard any hype for Vay, but I enjoyed it.
It was easy to get into, had nice music and a decent (yet basic) story.
I've played through it about 2-3 times, for some reason I keep coming back.

I have it, but have never really played it after the initial hour I put into it. The real gems behind Sega cd is the Lunar titles, Popful Mail and of course snatcher. I am a little biased as I LOVE Monkey Island on SCD and any form of it tickles my fancy, especially on console.
I'll eventually play through it, but not any time soon.

I started playing it a long while ago. I thought it was good enough. I had fun with it for a while but it did wear off. I was probably close to the end, but just lost interest. I think I was bugged by certain events in the story and how they impacted the make up of the party.

I picked this up at goodwill a little while ago. I still have not played it yet, though from what i hear it's pretty mediocre.

I thought it was pretty cool but then I'm the only person who ever like secret of the stars...
I got stuck at a point where you have to fight a giant cloud boss deep in a mountain, no matter how much I tooled away at him he woudln't fucking die, I even tried leveling up a ton of levels and he was still imposssilbe to beat. a decent game if not a bit confusing.

I beat it...it's highly adequate. Nothing outstanding, but a solid 6.5-7.0 w.r.t. most JRPGs.
Three words describe Vay: "step and fight," because that's basically all you do.

I played it back in the day...rental...froze half way through. I then bought a copy and played it a bit. I enjoyed it and agree that it was above average.

Not anymore! I really liked that game too! Very standard RPG fair but at the time when i played it i was anxious for an RPG.

Yeah, that was part of the appeal for me too. I loved the case and it made me want to play this game more.

Was a big let down for me. Guess I was expecting another Lunar. But I did laugh when the guard on top of the castle said, "Rook, it's Godzirra!"

I love basic RPGs.
That said I liked Vay a lot. But then I liked it for all the reasons that I liked most NES RPGs. It's not the greatest RPG ever, but it has a good script, some challenging boss fights and a almost calming routine of level grinding. It's no Lunar but that doesn't make it a bad game. It's just not fantastic.
Has a great opening theme song though.
