After playing the original NES Excitebike in the Nintendo 64 version of the game, I was just wondering what other newer games out there (PSX,DC,N64,GCN,PS2,XBOX,GBA) contain versions of older games? I did some searching but I really cannot find a list for this type of thing anywhere. I hear Metroid Prime has the original NES Metroid in it. This true? Either way, list the ones you know of here!

If you allow for adaptations of classic games in addition to emulations, there are plenty. Off the top, I can think of:
Spacewar (Way of the Warrior)
Warlords (Lunar: SSSC)
Vector-graphic versions of Lunar Lander, Snake, one other that escapes my mind (TimeSplitters 2)
Metroid (Metroid Prime)
Sinistar (Tyrants for Genesis)

yeah it's true. you need metroid fusion, prime and the link cable. when you beat fusion link up the games and you can play the original. you can also save your progress on the cube memory card.
as for another game...the remake of sonic dx for cube will have all of the sonic games previously released on game gear on it. pretty sweet deal.

Shenmue..for the DC has some Sega games in it that can be played when you walk to the Arcade in the game..
I'm pretty sure the PS version of Pitfall has the original Activision Atari 2600 version in it..
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure was one of the first games to do this. It had a playable version of 2600 Pitfall hidden somewhere.
Xevious 3D/G includes three classic versions of Xevious on the disc. They remind me why I don't like Xevious.

I don't own DK64 (yet). Is getting to the game easily accessible? Or do you have to beat the game first or something?
On another note, Way of the Warrior (3dO) had Spacewar in it? Whoa, I had this system and game a long longf time ago and don't remember that. Maybe I should ask that not only everybody list the games they know that have older titles built in, but HOW to access them! All of this is great information however! Thanks guys for the input!

DK 64 has some other game on it that I can't think of for some damn reason. It's an old Rare coin op
Wario Inc or whatever is going to have the FIVE SECOND NES GAMES OF DOOM!!! in it... lots of them from the sound of it.

I wish more games did this. Seems to me it would be easy, as the hard part (making the game) is already done, and it makes you spend that much more time actually playing the game.
Dahne gave up on Shenmue after spending far too much time wandering around lost.

I actually think it should be done, or thought of to be done, more often. Like Dahne said, the hard part of programming it is done, all you gotta do is put the orginial title in the game accessable somewhere. It's also a good homage and salute to the old school players who kept with a serie sor company over the years.

The only thing that I can think that's stopping them is maybe the royalties that they might have to pay to the original programmers. But, haven't a lot of these games come out on the GBA, those Classic Collections anyway? I think it's a nice bonus Easter Egg, but it's not going to make me buy a game anymore.
The only other one that I can think of is Panzer Dragoon Orta which has the original Panzer Dragoon in it.

@Zektor...as I recal getting DK in DK64 is kind of a pain. Well, you have to actually play DK64 and I'd rather have dental work than play that sprawling mess :P But I think you have to get to the point where you find it in the game, which takes some time, then you have to get to the 4th screen on one credit to unlock it. I think that's right.
Or you could do what I did and buy a used copy where someone has already unlocked it.

Ha , you fools you forgot the best hidden game ever thats right Death Tank!! Muahahah it was a hidden game on the saturn version of duke nukem 3d and also it was a hidden game in the saturn version of powerslave. Fun as hell too four player madness better than 4 player atari warlords best graphical atari like game there is. Did i mention i like it?
Impossible Mission 2025: The Special Edition (CD32) contains the original Impossible Mission game. It's not hidden though.

Too right about Death Tanks!! That is the best game ever ... never mind four players, try it with seven!! Absolute mayhem ... especially if you get a blitz round.
Anyway... another obvious one Die Hard Arcade (or Dynamite Deka) on the Saturn has Deep Scan as built in extra. And you can earn continues in the mian game by getting high scores on the Deep Scan game. Which was an original idea I guess, but it spoiled the main game. because Deep Scan was so piss easy that you could rack up 20 or so extra continues without any trouble.
Vroomfunkel
Oh, forgot two.
The fairly recent (and great) PSX shooter Zanac X Zanac includes 3 (?) versions of the original Zanac as well.
Zero Divide for the PSX had a hidden version of the SNES shooter Phalanx, of all things, accessible via a code. I don't think it was the full game.

Well, since Joe stole my Tranquilizer Gun response (curses!) I'll rattle on about this one instead. :-D
The Fantazy Zone game isn't really much of a game at all - if I remember correctly, it's a timed little playthrough thing (60 seconds or something like that) where you don't really even play one complete level from Fantasy Zone. It's almost like an FZ demo. To access it, you also have to do something silly, like score 99 on the first hole or something else that really isn't worth all the effort.
Of course, you'll still want to see it at least once. :)
And the Sinistar-type game in Tyrants isn't a true Sinistar game either. Argh!
I didn't see this one mentioned, so if somebody already listed it I apologize, but RED ZONE on the Genesis has a little Asteroids game in it.
MK3 has a Pong game and a Galaxian style game inside.
And don't some of the early Namco PSX games have little hidden games at the beginning? Tekken with a mini-Galaga style game maybe? Memory is hazy...

Rayman on Jaguar has 'Pong' type game
Space Rogue (PC) has an arcade game (Hive?, can't remember) (Origin)
Battlezone 2000 (Lynx) has the new version hidden inside, whilst the game itself is the old version (can someone confirm this?)
Many UK C-64 tape games from the 80's had loader games built in (Space Invader clones and such), Delta on C-64 has an awesome music mixing thingy in the loader.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time: actually I'm not sure which versions of these games have the original PoP/PoP2. I've read conflicting reports about it. Some say both games are on all versions, while others say it's just the first one on PS2 and GC while the Xbox just has the second one.
Outrun 2 for Xbox: original Outrun
Madden 2005: Collector's Edition for PS2 has some classic Madden games
Mortal Kombat: Deception (Kollector's Edition) for Xbox has the original MK
Rebel Strike for GC has the levels from Rogue Leader in a cooperative mode, and the arcade games Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and allegedly Return of the Jedi
GC version of Fight Night: Round 2 will have Super Punch Out!! (SNES)
Conker: Live and Reloaded (Xbox) will have Conker's Bad Fur Day

Hmm, surprised I missed this thread for so long!
Well, I see some neat choices here. All the same, nothing can or will beat System Shock 2's Game Pig games. Yes, the selection you can find throughout the course of the game is rather limited (though there's still some classics - a Spy Hunter game for example, now with pigs, or Tic-Tac-Triops, where you play against the Xerxes system - VERY hard Tic-Tac-Toe; you'll never beat the machine, and a takeoff on Minesweeper where you must flag pieces of corn as the hillarious instructions tell you: "Corn attracts swine. Don't step on the corn!"), but what's there is awesome.
Overworld Zero, for example, is a bit of an Ultima parody but plays approximately 10,000 times better as all you have to do is left click on a spot to move or attack once in that direction; there's potions, levels, merchants, lots of fetch quests, two sizes of human settlement, enemy camps to burn down, an amusing city/village name generator (as a rule, cities get longer names than villages), and the ability to resume games!
Overworld Zero has more replayability than the others, but I feel it's pretty indicative of the quality of SS2's MFD games. Oh, MFD? You're playing your ingame character playing these games: A MFD (Multi-Function Display) window pops up next to your inventory window, while everything else in the game world continues as before - enemies continue to patrol, and can even spot and kill you while you're playing! The Game Pig device even has a help text dialog that disclaims liability for injuries suffered due to inattentiveness during game play :D
Yet there's more to this story. For whatever reason, the vast majority of Game Pig games aren't normally accessible - usually you find game cartridges and put them into the Game Pig to unlock them, or you can hack the Game Pig to get the whole selection. However, it became obvious to me during a game with SoulBlazer and Calthaer that there was something fishy about the blank spaces on the Game Pig page listing, so I looked through the cheat listings for the game. There's a cheat window (be sure to close your inventory before bringing it up) one hits a button combo to bring up; from here you can spawn all sorts of goodies. I tried out a range of values for differently numbered Game Pig carts, and amusingly it turns out some of the more famous games you can play are hidden in this manner:
- A polygonal Tempest clone (looks very good for the resolution!);
- A "catch the bacon" game where you maneuver around a burger bun and catch pieces of food on it to build up a burger; after you've got a hamburger patty sitting on top bits of food start raining down like mad
There's a number of others I really should remember; I'll have to load up the game again sometime and get a better list.
But anyhow, my verdict on this game's hidden games? Best ever. They're all mouse-only, so they play exceedingly well.
Geometry Wars in Project Gotham Racing 2 deserves a mention.

I think my most favorite "game in a game" game, was Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure. You could jump into the original atari 2600 game and run around :-) It was pretty sweet to play that. I think another was Mortal Kombat II with pong, but that took way too long to unlock. Wasn't really worth it.
