View Full Version : Street Fighter IV - Jamma to Taito Type X2?

I'm seriously thinking of pre-ordering a SFIV kit but I'm wondering how feasible it is to convert a Jamma cab (or a Namco System 246 cab) to a Taito Type X2 rig.
I'm not looking for specifics necessarily but just the fesibility.
I see, for example, that this (http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/taito_type_x2/Battle_Fantasia_kit_7204.html) site has a game that ships with the X2 mobo; but what about the IO board? This (http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/taito_type_x2/King_of_Fighters_Maximum_Impact_Regulation_A_kit_7 143.html) kit comes with what appears to be the whole installation, would I need to purchase anything else?
I haven't done much in the way of conversions yet; I don't know if this is a gut and replace from the top down or what. But with KOF XII and SFIV on this hardware, I've developing some major incentive to drop some scratch to have the coolest games on the block.

Of the two cabs mentioned, a System 246 cab would be the best choice as it is already set up for a JVS board, so the X2 would plug right in. You would have to wire the buttons correctly, of course, but it should be a piece of cake. To run an X2 in a JAMMA cab would require a JVS to JAMMA convertor. Not a big deal but it would definitely be easier to find a JVS cab to start with.
Have you priced the SFIV kit? I've not heard of anyone willing to sell single kits. NCSX was going to, but their supplier got slapped on the hand by CAPCOM and now they won't sell anything other than the four board link set up. Anyway, if you decide to go this route, be sure to keep us updated.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm going to do some more research on the JVS board. Wiring buttons is a snap; I've done that many times.
As far as how I was going to get the board, it was going to be through NCSX; I hadn't heard that they were cancelling their import program. If they're not going to ship, I guess I'm going to see if I can find another supplier and see how they price the kit.

NCSX cancelled the pre-orders because the distributors are forcing people to get 4 kits for the first month.
www.coinopexpress.com is accepting preorders.
There's other things you will need to keep in mind, like the Sound Amps, and the fact this game plays on a Widescreen TV normally...gonna look funky the other way around me thinks....

I was planning on outfitting my rig with a 24" LCD via Dell just to support the game.
On Coinopexpresses site I wasn't able to find that kit at all. I'll email them to see what the status is.

you can always wait for it to come out on a console platform...the X2 is pretty much a overpriced modded pc. Finally we can get picture perfect ports of arcade games on a home system at a fraction of a faction of the price...so I personally don't see the point of going to arcade route anymore....and this is coming from a rabid arcade fan.
