View Full Version : NES Zapper...don't tell me it actually has ANY value

So I was in a pawn shop today. I saw a copy of SMB/Duck Hunt bundled with a zapper for $13. Most of the NES games were reasonably priced (less than $5) so this struck me as odd...then I got to thinking. Every time I see a zapper being sold, it seems to be for at least $10. do they actually carry any value or is literally every person on earth overvaluing their zappers when they try to sell them?
if they are worth something, i have about ten of them sitting around...I should probably sell them. however, my gut instinct says that they are worth little more than a copy of SMB/Duck Hunt.
I also picked up a copy of King's Bounty for Genesis for $3. I had never seen it anywhere before. Is it worth anything? I'm a fan of the early Heroes of Might and Magic games, so I've wanted to play King's Bounty for years now. I read about it in a Genesis game guide like 15 years ago and have been curious ever since.
I saw something else there that I hadn't seen much before and thought might be rare...unfortunately I can't remember what it was.

Zappers are worth about $3-5 apiece I'd say. If you've got a boxed one its worth quite a bit more.

I believe the grey zapper is a bit more desirable, but I am not entirely sure about that.

It is, but it's still not $10.

As boatofcar said, they're worth $3-5. I paid $2.99 for a grey zapper at Goodwill last year. The grey zapper is a little more desirable because it was the original one, but they're as common as the orange zappers and aren't worth anything more.

Local markets dictate different pricing for different items.

True, but you also have people that make up there own price without doing any research. We usually find these people at flea markets. Sometimes their prices are reasonable. Sometimes they are $10 and above:smash:

$30 for an orange zapper? :shameful:
That reminds me of a something I saw on my local CL recently... someone was trying to sell a loose NES Advantage for $40. Ugh.

When bundled with SMB/DH it's pretty easy to get $10+ on ebay. Think about it, some kid gets a NES console at a garage sale and his nostalgia is sparked. What's one of the first things he thinks of? Shooting ducks with his zapper. That's the key to buying and selling NES, you have to go for items like that. That's the same reason you can sell Track & Field + Power Pad for $25. Seperately they aren't worth much, but bundle them and you're set.

Every damn vendor at my local flea markets wants $10.00 for a Zapper if they have them:monkey:..Dirty,scratched up whatever.("Hey,That's A rare light gun for that Nitendooo thing"
Even if I know the vendor they still want the same.the lowest they'll go is $8.00
I actually look for these but the most I'll pay is $5.........$3.00 and I'm happy..

I would pay that for a boxed Zapper, but loose, no more than $5. I thought the grey one is a little more rare because they stopped making them and started making the orange one because the grey one looked more realistic... I may be wrong though, but that is what I have heard.
I love flea markets, but some of the people there should be shot for trying to sell SMB/DH for $10 or more(I have seen it out here). I have no problem paying $3-$5 for a game, but some of the stuff out there has been sitting in the sun and rain for years. And everytime you ask how much something is, it is always different everyweek. I found a 3DO out there, it was $30 one week, $45 the next, $50 the next. There are some killer deals there though if you catch people on good days!

I found a working 3DO FZ-1 system at a flea market for $1. Not only did it work but it had a game inside of it too:)

well, that line of thinking is true to an extent...but i don't think that includes appreciating $20 over a two week period.

I used to sell them modified(weights removed, trigger recoil disabled) for less than $10.
They really aren't all that hard to find. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if there were more working zappers than working front-loaders.

You would be surprised how bundling cheap stuff can turn a larger profit. Bundle the SMB/DH/World Class Track Meet cart with the power pad and zapper and you can see people get rabid on ebay.

That has to be a regional thing. At the pawnshops and flea markets here, they go for 3-5, depending if they have a game bundled with them. I have never paid for one, people just give them to me.
Why would you do that exactly?
That I am also curious.

I recall seeing them hover around $20-30 used. However, I can probably get you a new Japanese famicom version.
