I know I've probably mentioned this before, but I went to another coin-op auction yesterday and just had a blast. Didn't buy anything (got a number and then realized I had no way to get anything home :() but the trip was worth it for me to see a Phoenix that looked like it'd just been uncrated! I think it went for $300 something. Man, I was salivating!

I would highly reccommend anyone who has an interest in the golden age of arcade to check your paper and head out. Even if you have no interest in buying anything, it's fun just to go and look. Plus, there's some top notch people watching to be had, if you're into that sort of thing.

Everyotherweek somewhere by QoF they have a auction of about 300. I really wanna go and see if i can find steeplechase one of these days, Now i got a place to put them, i think i might do this in a coupla months.

It's almost worth buying from a dealer just to get them to deliver it to your house for you. Is there anything more back breaking than trying to move around a full size arcade game. Even if you remove the monitor, power supply transformer and any hardware to lighten it, those particle board cabinets still weigh a ton.

Was that a Centuri Phoenix, Cap'n? I had one of those...pristine mint. There's another Phoenix...I had the boards and manual for htat one but not the actual cab. And yeah..arcade auctions are fun....I totally need an MVS candy cab (but you never see THOSE at the auctions!). I'd love to get a few arcade machines, but the money and size constraints....makes it hard for me to buy one.

Damn, I gotta check out one of these auctions one time.

Do they sell cabs only, or do they sell pcb's as well?

See any dedicated Neo Geo 2 or 4 slots for sale capt?

What's up buttasuperb..
I've seen 2-4 slots at the auctions here in New Jersey..They also have PCB's and parts..I've also heard about seeing them from my brother in law..
I've never really paid attention to what they were actually selling for I was looking at the cabs..So I can't say I seen a certain pcb or part sold..

My uncle had his eye on a Soul Caliber cab..and Mr Brother in law was going for a Robotron Cab..He bought a Ghosts and Goblins cab that day..

I just know I had to wait until all the parts auctions were over ..before thay got to the Cabs..I left to eat..
They just kept bringing in cabs and cabs..Wow! so many cab..Amazing..

I didn't have my Cab yet..and I wasn't into Cabs as i am now..
That was over a yr ago..I haven't went in awhile.
I tell you after seeing all those cabs your sure to get into it..

My brother in law is strickly into arcade machines..He goes to every auction he can..
So when i talk to him he tells me what he sees..

@butta, now you know I was looking. LOL

Saw 2 one-slots. One was restorable, but the monitor needed some serious adjustment, did come with Bust a Move however. Went for $65.

The other was fucked. It had obviously been left in the rain, was a pretty funky conversion to start with, and wasn't powered up. That one went for $10.

The thing that tripped me out was there were 3 MAME machines there and those commanded the most $$$ of anything. All went from $500-$900. I suppose that's not too bad if you don't want to mess with making one your self, but there were plenty of games at this same auction with decent cabs that went for a song. All you'd need to do is put a PC in there, slap a monitor in it and wire up the controlls. *shrugs*

Well then.. I tell you what. If you can arrange a truck, I'll head out and we can team up. I'm a powerlifter and actually enjoy picking up heavy obtuse items like this... and should have no problems with your avg arcade cab... LOL

I've been seriously thinking about making myself a MAME cab. What's the real deal with this? Can you generally buy most cabs and convert it? What are the issues with the controls? Where do you find these auction listings anyway?

Check your local paper or google for "arcade auction" and your state. It's that easy and I'm pretty sure they have them all over the country.

A MAME cab can be a simple or complex as you want it. Some people just gut an old cab, put a PC, monitor, and an Hot Rod in there, but you can use all the original stuff if you want. http://www.arcadeathome.com/pics.phtml That should give you some ideas.

Keep in mind though that an arcade monitor is not the same as a PC monitor. You can get a convertor to make it work so it's not that big of a deal. Also, you can get an I-Pac to make the controllers work on a PC, but they won't work straight out the box.

Still, if the wood of the cabinet is good and everything else is busted, you can pick up a cab dirt cheap and convert it without too much trouble.
