Hi
I've been curious about this title for the Famicom. Is it a part of the Castlevania storyline or a one off self contained game? I haven't had a chance to get it yet, just wondering if it is worth a purchase.
Thanks
Sam

Worth a purchase? Damn straight it is!
As for the story, it's more of a parody of the series. And I don't care what anyone says, Kid Dracula -is not Alucard-. :p

If I was you, I'd wait a bit and see what others think, though. I love the game for several reasons... so I'm a bit biased.

This is probably the Famicom cart I want the most.

It's worth it the game is like a parody of castlevania.
It is easy given it's a kid game but worth playing regardless.

Plus the final boss is a super cute version of Galamoth, the pain in the ass lighting giant thing in the reverse castle on Symphony of the Night. How can you not love a game that lets you kill him again?

I have the Famicom-cart of this game and recently played and beaten it. It's a really fun game to play. It's not really challenging but I loved the amount of bosses in it. You also don't need knowledge of the Japanese language, except for one boss which let you play some sort of quiz.

I also have the Famicom cart and my feelings about it are lukewarm. It's cool to see all the castlevania characters in a cartoonish light, but the game isn't all that great. What is neat, though, is that some of the imagery, while culturally acceptable in Japan, would be horribly un-P.C. in the states. For example, the first boss appears to be a typical sheet-wearing ghost at first. But after you fight him for awhile he disappears and returns on the screen larger, and you can see a swastika on his forehead--ie, he's a klansman. Yikes.
I haven't finished the game so I don't know if there's more little gems like that.

naw I say he IS Alucard cuz Kid Dracula was made around the same time as CVIII (which features Alucard) and features music from that game. :)

If you can't get the famicom cart, the Gameboy version of Kid Dracula is available in the states. Don't know how much of it is ported from the famicom version, but from what I hear, it is just as good as the original with GB colors.

I just checked out the game and I could kinda see where people may think its Alucard. The only thing is that there doesn't seem to be anything official about that so I guess you could only assume that it could be him. Its the white hair.

Well, Alucard has had blond, black and helmet before, so, it could be him. That, and Japanese folks don't tend to give a crap about hair color in their games, cartoons or mangas.

Uhhh.. first of all a Swastika does not automatically mean it has anything to do with Naziism. Swastikas can be found used all over the place in history and yes in Asia.
Second usually the Nazi swastikas are at a 45 degree angle and are facing clockwise. The symbol in the game is facing to the left and is not rotated.

Seems like Wikipedia has a lengthy article on it..

It's not Alucard. Alucard hates his father. This guy doesn't seem to... not to mention he can go around in sunlight, so.

True, but the left-facing factor is just due to sprite flipping.

I'm aware of this, but the hooded-sheet appearance of the character is a little too stigmatizing to ignore. Besides, it's not like I'm insinuating that Konami are National Socialists. It's just that video games from the far east, especially during that period, depict a lot of that sort of thing. Look at Devil World, Bionic Command (AKA "The Resurrection of Hitler") or Irem's Photoboy for the PC Engine. Maybe they didn't have the nads to put a full on swastika in there, but Japanese culture sometimes seems to make light of things that the Western world kill each other over. Just an observation.

Forgot to answer this.
It's a sequel. There's more special powers, and a few different levels... and a Jason Voorhees / Leatherface combo boss, I think.

Dude, it's when he's an innocent kid, BEFORE he developed absentee father issues.
