Notacon 5 takes place this year April 4th-6th in Cleveland, Ohio. Notacon is similar to other hacker cons but with an emphasis on creative arts -- music, art, etc.

For the second year in a row, Notacon is also hosting Blockparty, the biggest demoparty in the US. For you old schoolers who remember hearing about those wild European computer parties where computer demos were released and shown, now is your opportunity to attend one right here in your own backyard. Blockparty is hosted by Jason Scott (BBS Documentary) and Rad Man (Founder, ACiD).

Some of this year's speakers include:

The Fat Man (has done over 250 game soundtracks including Wing Commander I and II, 7th Guest I and II, and more)
Pete Edwards and Fred Owsley (Circuitbenders)
Jake "virt" Kaufman (FM Synthesis/another game soundtrack guy)
Jim "Trixter" Leonard (fouder, MobyGames, among other projects)
Jeri Ellsworth (C64-DTV, among other projects)
Tim Cowley (GBA/PSP demo maker, among other projects)

Some of the Notacon speakers include Jason Scott, Bruce Potter, dosman, and many others.

I am really hoping to attend. It's going to take some miraculous schedule juggling to get there, but I'm working on it.

Thanks for the post. First time hearing about this, looks cool. Since it's in my backyard it's a good excuse to take a day off work and see what all the fuss is about. :)
