According to the DP guide, this game started out as a mail order only and then was later sold in some stores.

My question, were there 2 different versions (other than the Euro release, obviously) of this game? The back of the box says "You won't find this version on the store shelves" It would seem pretty silly to have that on the back of the box when it was sitting on a store shelf.

As far as I understand all the left over mail order stock was just dumped into shelves at major retailers like Toys R Us. Nothing was changed, and in all my years collecting I've never seen a different US version.

I agree, I think we can say definitively there is only one U.S. version. I have never seen or heard of another either.

There is only one US version of the game. Finding one complete with instructions is hard.

There were rumors long ago that there existed a version of the game with a colored box (as opposed to the blue and white monochrome box), but these versions turned out to be the European counterparts.
