I am trying to get my girlfriend and her 11 year old son into classic gaming (mainly on the NES, Genny, and SNES). I am looking for recommendations of some really good 2 player games (preferably 2 players at once). I already tried Super C on the NES and Super Contra/ Alien Wars on the SNES and they both found them to be too hard, so the games would have to be not too difficult.

Thanks!!!!!!!

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles or Sonic 2, are 2 player in the sense that Tails can play tag along. The only videogame that my sister would ever play with me since he was pretty much indestructable so she didn't have to worry about sucking. Quality time, those days..

Sonic Blastman 2 for the SNES. It's a two player beat'em up that's pretty fun.

Or any Gauntlet?

Bubble Bobble.

I second Gauntlet and Bubble Bobble. They're both very easy to learn, hard to master, blah blah blah. Great fun.

Bomberman is a favorite of mine too, even with just two players. You can set the computer skill level to very easy or remove them from the board entirely. Can never go wrong with a game of Super Bomberman 2 (SNES) or Mega Bomberman (Genesis)!

You could try Gunstar Heroes, but that's probably pretty hard and crazy with 2 players...
Maybe not appropriate for an 11-year old, but Sega's Streets of Rage games, Double Dragon 2 for NES, Battletoads/Double Dragon for SNES is a fun, cartoony side-scroller, Clayfighter might be fun (hell, it still makes me laugh), there are also some 2-player shooters out there...Gradius, I think, any others?

Joust is a great 2-player game, with many versions out there.

On Sega Saturn, we enjoy Saturn Bomberman and Baku Baku as multiplayer games. The wife likes Baku Baku quite a bit in fact. She beats me all the time.

On DC, me & Caf Jr (8 yrs old) play Marvel VS Capcom 2 a lot, and thankfully he can actually beat me now.

Depends if you're looking for 2 player co-op or head to head action.

I've found co-op's pretty good if the other person isn't too great a player and you want to keep them in the game until they get used to it in which case one of the best I've found for the younger players is a shmup called Pop 'n' Twinbee: Rainbowbell adventure. It's comical, quite cartoony and has vivid graphics and best of all it doesn't matter how poorly the other person plays so long as you're alive, they can come back as often as they like. I completed the game with my younger cousin and because his repeated dying didn't matter he felt like he completed the game too :)

Other good co-op games would be side-scrolling beat em ups e.g. final fight series, rival turf, SoR series, separation anxiety, max carnage etc (though some of the genre may be too violent for the kid)

Joe and Mac (SNES) is a good platformer for two player co-op and is pretty easy

Legend of the Mystical Ninja (SNES) has pretty good two player co-op

otherwise, for two player head to head your choices are huge, some of the best that come to mind are..

Mario Cart (!!) (SNES)
Rock 'n' Roll Racing (SNES or Genny)
Any of the SF2 or MK (barring 3 and ultimate) Series are good beat em ups
Clay fighter 1 or C2 are good for a laugh
