Noted this in this week's Best Buy ad:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8670789&type=product&id=1802135
Usually $59.99, on sale this week only for $29.99.
Given the fact that stores don't actively carry GBA new anymore, could this be a game that slips by most folks-and is this particular box set the only way to get it? According to info online, it released 2/12/08(Amazon) or 2/26/08(Best Buy).
There is no listing for the game individually online except for one listing on eBay. (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Samurai-Deeper-KYO-Game-Boy-Advance-video-game-GBA_W0QQitemZ160212731797QQihZ006QQcategoryZ62053Q QrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQ cmdZViewItem)
Looks like a localization of a 5-6 year-old Japanese game, published by Bold Games.
Could this be one of the last releases(or the last release) for the system?

Wow, a GBA game along with the entire series? For $30? For the series alone that sounds like a good deal.

Just found this topic about the release without the DVD:

Interesting.
Not available individually through traditional retail channels? Check.
Based on a license not many folks care about? Check.
Released after the system was basically declared dead? Check.
Released through a publisher that's known for putting out crap? Check.
This one just screams FUTURE RARITY to me.
I know that trying to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to prediciting rares almost (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32882&highlight=ribbit+king) always (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39080&highlight=Bujingai) seems (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7555&highlight=Kakuto+Chojin) to (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=41016&highlight=Katamari+Damacy) backfire (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59694&highlight=The+Bible+Game) and that 99% of truly RARE games are the titles that pass everyone by and don't get mentioned on forums and whatnot, but I figured this one meets a lot more 'criteria' that most rare games meet as well.

I don't know if the game is any good, but the anime wasn't bad... it had some good characters and fighting scenes, but the storyline... :puke:

Found a game play video of this game on YouTube with a terrible song (I'm assuming the intro theme song for the anime) dubbed over it:

An overhead beat em up. Looks pretty bad if you ask me, a shame too since I generally love the genre.

That looks awful... i'll buy it for the DVDs alone.

The only place I've seen selling the game seperate is Rightstuf and they charge $30 so this bundle deal is worth it to say the least.
I've played a bit of the game and so far to say that it is bland would be an understatement. I've killed roughly 1200 enemies according to the in game counter. Not counting palate swaps or bosses there are maybe three enemie types. One attack button and a useless jump button. I've seen flash games with more depth than this one. You basically move around jamming the attack button until everything is dead and then you move onto the next screen. The only variety in attacks is the ability to end your "combo" with the jump button which performs a knock back attack.
As you hit enemies a meter raises which when full allows you to press the R button to perform a special move complete with voice sample. If the two characters I've controlled are anything to go by the special move is simply a 360 degree attack.
The game boasts different weapons but as far as I can tell only the stats ar different. Each character seems to have their own 5 or 6 hit "combo" string which seemingly remains unchanged with each weapon. Granted, I'm not terribly far so this may change.
Basic flow of the game starts you with a condensed portion of the anime story. Character portraits pop up, they have discussions about why they are going to fight and then you are thrust into action. You walk through the extremely linear levels fighting the same three enemy types over and over until you reach a boss. The bosses so far have been total pushovers but at least they are unique and do have they own special move. After the boss is down you get another "story" sequence. Then the game asks you to save, and you can only have one save file. After saving you get another story and the game continues with the progression. Story-Level-Boss-Story. Only ever changing it up by occaisionally throwing some story bits into the levels themselves.

Interestingly enough, this official game trailer makes it look somewhat appealing:

UndeadKing, thanks so much for your review. i wouldnt buy this regardless of rarity or price. i was considering it after work yesterday but decided to read some replies to this thread first. good decision. what a waste of space this would have been in my apartment.
that, and i hate anime.
now i feel like i saved 30$. ill go buy the Tabula Rasa Collectors edition for 20$ and Pheonix Wright Justice for All for 15$. free shipping and thats almost what i wouldve paid for that crud after tax.

Experiencing cognitive dissonance!
If the game sucks, it won't be worth anything in the future. Sure, you probably won't find it cheaper right now, but later people will be chucking copies out into the street, lol.

not sure but this looks like it was directed at me, let me explain, just cause i dislike anime, doesnt mean i have to dislike it's byproducts. especially if some have very competent story lines. i just dont like watching cartoons that take themselves seriously -- i feel retarded (strangely i have no problem play video games lol). so if a story is mature and interested, and the gameplay is halfway decent, im game.
for the record i like: Gatchaman, Speed Racer and Akira. everything other than that i loath.
nevertheless, i didnt like *any* games based on those animes and i liked many games that were based on other anime (although honestly nothing comes to mind, but im sure there are as i like to play JRPGs)
