Forgive me if this site already has a thread of it's own, but I found it to be quite interesting I wanted to see what you guys think:

http://www.nesreproductions.com/

Quite Honestly, I think it's a great idea. A lot of these are great games that just never got released, and this guy is putting them on cartridges with labels that really make them look authentic.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/leonki/ai4_cart.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/leonki/goonies_cart.jpg

I for one would be interested in getting Adventure Island 4 and The Goonies. These are two games that I logged hours into on ROMS, but never had the joy of playing them on an actual NES.

Of course, the value of these games are really only based on how much you want it. Because anyone with enough time and talent can do what this site does, there really is no rarity. Some might even question the gaming morality behind it. LOL

I also want to note that they do not supply the cartridge, you have to give them a donor cart based on the specifications of the game you want reproduced.

Anyone else think this is neat?

Yeah, it's a really cool concept IMO. When I get some extra cash (and an NES), I'll probably be ordering a couple.

Goonies 1 is one of my favorite NES era platformers.

I spent plenty of quarters on it in VS cabinets in the arcades when I was younger, I have it on a few HK multicarts and I frequently include the ROM on many NES emulators I use.

I'd say that getting it on a NES repro doesn't break any kind of "morality", as it's never been available at retail in the US outside of Nintendo VS Arcade units ... and as good as "Goonies II" is ... it's almost nothing like the original.

I might be interested in Goonies or the ghastly Star Trek V. One thing though is I am not a fan of their Goonies label. Being it was a Konami game, shouldn't have a Nintendo label format. Should have gone with the traditional Konami Silver. The famicom game had the artwork from the movie poster.

I doubt his printer can handle the Konami silver, I don't know where you'd get something like that made. But you can make you own labels for any of the games you order. The image file just has to have the correct print resolution. You don't have to use the art other users have made, it's just easier.

As for the order time, I seemed to remember mine taking forever too. The wait was well worth it though. If your concerned though, just send Leonk a message. I'm sure he'll let you know what's going on.

I was very satisfied with my copy of Zelda: Outlands (I'd been itching to play it ever since the first beta was released by the gang over at Challenge Games), but my copy of Dragons of Flame is depressingly unplayable. Graphical glitches abound, and pressing any button other than START sends the game back to the title screen.

I don't know anything about this game - does this occur in roms or was there something physically wrong with the cart you received?

I ordered a game from him last year and it took about a month from the day I shipped the donor cart to the day the reproduction arrived.

did you contact him? I'm sure he would fix it, if it's a hardware problem.

While Konami did develop the game, but since Nintendo distributed Goonies 1 in the US in their Vs. series Arcade Cabinets, I think the choice to go with the original NES style label is a good one.

It wouldn't be the ONLY game that wasn't developed by Nintendo but wound up distributed by them on the NES, and with that style of label - Kung Fu was developed by Irem and originally distributed in arcades by Data East.

Though, I also wouldn't mind seeing it on a Konami "silver" label with a nice Drew Struzan-esque watercolor painting.

Daria, any kind of color inkjet or laser printer could handle those colors, and it's not like you're saving toner/ink by printing with the black background either.

Frankie, I see your point on the source of distribution, but it would almost be a shame not to take advantage of a Struzan poster. Not to mention that Konami had without a doubt the coolest label/box artwork of any NES publisher. Heck, they were often the only ones to bother with original artwork.

The other repro site stuck the movie poster on the label.

However, Leonk's are a bit more period correct in general. Although in some cases they are using the same label.

I would imagine most of the guys who do these would gladly print whatever label you wanted as long as you did the work of preparing it.

he doens't require a donor cart.

I'm thinking it's more likely to be a buggy ROM, though the cart features two very prominent, very pointy-looking pins seated above and below the actual connector itself. I'm not quite sure what game the donor cart was from, but it's unlike anything I've seen before. If my camera were operational, I'd upload a pic to show you what I mean.

Metallic silver? Normal printers can't do shiny colors.

Exactly. LeonK had me make my own label for Just Breed because before I had ordered it, no one else had. And if you order Just Breed, the default label he uses is the one I made.

Why do all of these repro guys put the Official Nintendo Seal on their labels? I mean, they're already selling pirates, but isn't that just asking for more trouble?

At this point in time, I think Nintendo could care less about these kind of things. It would be really sad though if these guys were shut down over such a thing (especially before I place my orders). :-D

Konami games weren't that shiny. You're printing on a somewhat glossy label, that should be good enough.

I ordered an Earthbound Zero from this guy. No donor cart. Yeah, it took probably 3-4 weeks, but I was very pleased. Nice cart; nice label. Very satisfied. I definitely recommend.

Ok. Well in that case, You could totally do a mock-up of the Goonies movie poster spliced with the Konami silver and submit it to LeonK when you order the game. :P

well I like the idea. Homebrews and games like these are fun and expand the hobby. However I have a concern that may have popped into some of your heads too. All games like this should be clearly labeled and maybe even etched on the carts and chips that they are reproductions or homebrews to stop any confusion. Odd looking games come up all the time online and it would save a lot of trouble if things were just marked. I think you will all understand if you collect in the nes and atari 2600 because there are so many things coming out on top of the already unknow complete list. thank you

Ok the other I saw one of this guys mario 2s on ebay and the guy had no idea what it was and was trying to pass it off as a "rare" game. Would just like to see things like this stopped.

If you don't know enough about prototypes to be duped into buying a reproduction as a proto then you have no business spending that kind of money on this hobby.

I've ordered 2 games from Gamereproductions,Sweet Home and Earthbound Zero.
So far I'm still waiting to receive Earthbound Zero, ordered on Feb 14. This guy has written me twice, saying that he has been behind or something. I'm usually a pretty patient guy, but this is crazy! I'm just really wanting to play this game. So my advice is, if you order from this website, be prepared to wait a LONG time.
