Since baseball season has just begone, I was wondering what Baseball games were your favorites? My favorite was Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball for the Super Nintendo. I played a full 162 season with the Mariners win loss record was 119-43. I really think this was one of the best baseball games out there.

I also like Ken Griffey Jr. Presents MLB, but I also enjoy Tecmo Super Baseball.

I just remember Tommy LaSorda baseball being the first "next gen" baseball game of the 16 bit era and I remember how the ball would scale when it was hit up in the air. The Genesis pretty much had all the good baseball games of that era but the SNES did have the Griffey game which was cool because it had the home run derby. Plus it was called Ke Griffey presents Major League Baseball but didn't have real teams or players.

Corey, you hit my favorite baseball game of all time. I also enjoyed Super Baseball 2020, the Baseball All-Star games, Bad News Baseball was fun, as was Base Wars. 3D Baseball and WSB 98 on Saturn kicked ass.

If you haven't noticed, I dig baseball video games more than the average gamer :)

Without a doubt, my favorite baseball game was Major League Baseball for the Intellivision. Unfortunately at the time that game came out, I owned an Atari 2600 and had to settle for the godawful "Home Run" cartridge. "MLB" was one of the main games that was demo'd for promoting the Intellivision at one of the stores I used to go to, there was always a crowd around that game but I managed to sneak in some playing time nevertheless. Finally picked up an Intellivision about two years ago and also bought (you guessed it) Major League Baseball. Still love that game.

This reminds me of a funny story. My friend and I used to play Ken Griffey for SNES all the time. One night we playing and drinking a few beers, and I feel some gas building. I let one go "sbd" and a few seconds later he catches a whif and runs to the bathroom and throws up. He had a pretty weak stomach, but I couldn't help but feel proud.

Anyway my faves would have to be

RBI Baseball-NES
Ken Griffey-SNES

Super Baseball 2020

That's my favorite as well (the SNES version, to be specific).

I also like both Ken Griffey Jr. games on the SNES, and the baseball game on Quattro Sports (NES).

One of these days, I want to get Baseball Stars (NES), and something on the Genesis. I'm thinking of either one of the later World Series Baseball games or Sports Talk Baseball.

I have other baseball games for other systems throughout the years but I keep coming back to Ken Griffey. Though today I finished off the season of 162 games with the mariners with a win loss record of 119-43 and lost the world series...now I am on a quest to do the Chicago Cubs with a 162 and win the world series. And the players were actually "real." Same stats as in that season. Name editor allowed you to change their fake names into the real deal. Most devious stunt I ever saw, and speaks volumes of what a brilliant game it was, and still is ;)

The original Bases Loaded and RBI Baseball for the NES. Come to think of it, most of my favorite sports games are from that era (excluding skating games since I think Skate or Die was the only one in that genre on the NES). I may have to play some Bases Loaded tonight when I get home.

Ken Griffey Jr. on the N64 had me hooked like no other sports game has ever had me hooked.

Also, I spent many years with the World Series Baseball games on Sega Saturn and Dreamcast.

My baseball game of choice for the NES was RBI Baseball.

My favorites are all on the NES:

Bad News Baseball
Baseball Simulator 1.000
Base Wars
Baseball Stars

Also, anyone out there actually like Jaleco's Bases Loaded offerings? I keep buying them, but they kind of suck... I do however get some enjoyment out of Super Bases Loaded, even though it's frustratingly difficult and pretty much a carbon copy of Bases Loaded 4 on the NES.

Favorites are Baseball Stars on NES and Ken Griffey Jr. presents on SNES. Have played probably every baseball game on 2600, NES, Genesis, SNES, and some N64. I don't like the N64 and up games, they are too complicated, and boring.

RBI Baseball or RBI Baseball 3 for NES or GTFO.

What he said. The Famista/RBI Baseball series is probably my favorite baseball video game series ever. RBI Baseball 3 can go take a hike, though. I hated the new "Americanized" art style they tried to foist with RBI 2 and 3. Chubby round players for the win. Speaking of which...

Pro Yakyuu Famista DS

...this game is amazing. Translating a Famista game into 3D while loosing none of the playability that made it so great is no easy task, but Namco pulled it off perfectly (right down to the familiar in-game "batting" and "change sides" music!). Also...

Ken Griffey Jr. Presents MLB on the SNES is my pick. Love how some fouls threaten to shatter your TV screen. Been managing a team comprised of current and past Orioles. We're 39-34, so far. Surprisingly, J.R. House leads in the HR department. He has 16 jacks.

Except it had real teams.

I remember back in the day, a game company would go either after MLB team licencing or MLBPA licencing. So you would either have real teams or real players, but for no one had both. I think it was like that for many other sports games too. I guess they didn't want to spend the $ for both licences.

Yeah, I play this one constantly. I can't even understand what any of the menus because it's 100% japanese but I still love it.

Been looking around for an english FAQ for a while but I can't find one. I always play the mode where you play with one team and build up experience points but all my players suck. I use the Hanshin Tigers and they all have E, F, D, C levels for their stats and I don't know how to raise them. I figured out how to purchase new players with the capsule machines but their stats still suck. I usually get beat badly by the computer if I play a full game, so I just stick to 3 inning games so I'll at least have a chance.

Heh, I never even messed with that. Actually, I did, but I had no clue what I was doing, so I stopped. I usually just play quick "exhibition" games (second option down on the menu screen, then first option on the left).

I haven't played a full season of Ken Griffey Jr. Presents MLB for a couple years, but I do remember that I had a tough time with the Orioles. Spent most of the season under .500, then finally ending it with a nice surge and a playoff spot. Would've won the AL East if I hadn't gone 3-7 in my last ten games.

Tecmo Super Baseball is fun too. Played it on an emulator years ago (have a copy of the game now), and went 127-35 with the '94 Orioles and won the World Series over Montreal.

Yest. I played some Genesis WSB '96 (cool HUGE batter graphics!) & Sportstalk BB. Sportstalk is a bit more visually "cartoony", kinda like what Ive seen of SNES Ken Griffey. I heard the 1st Ken Griffey is better than the second. I recently briefly had Colecovision SuperAction Baseball (for the special controller) but didnt like it AT ALL.

I also have:

NES BaseWars
SNES Super Baseball 2020
Pete Rose Baseball (7800)
Baseball Heroes (Lynx)
& maybe my favorite, Mattel Electronic handheld baseball!

I started playing a lot of Realsports Baseball but I can't get into that 2600 game anymore.
The ones I still play...

Hardball - Atari 8bit
Star League Baseball - Atari 8bit
RBI Baseball - NES
Baseball Stars 2/Pocket on the NGP
WSB 2K2 - Dreamcast
Powerful Pro Baseball series - all import on SNES, Saturn, Gamecube, GBA and DS.

The Power Pro games have been my favorites for 10 years. Big heads and great baseball action. They finally released an American version on the PS2 - MLB Power Pros but haven't tried it yet.

Baseball stars 1 & 2 and Legends of the Daimond. I loved that game as a kid. You can play as Babe Ruth or Ty Cobb and all the other legends, and it's on the nes none the less. By the way the title isn't a typo, that's how they spelled it.

(Star League Baseball - Atari 8 Bit/C64)

I had that one growing up on the C64. I loved the goofy music the game would play after a home run. When it came to the C64, though, almost all of my baseball time went toward Hardball.

I was never too into most of the NES baseball titles, but against friends, Base Wars, Baseball Stars, Bases Loaded and Dusty Diamond All-Star Softball stick out as favorites. Like most others here, I really got into the Ken Griffey Jr. titles for the Super Nintendo and was totally absorbed into Sega's World Series Baseball titles for both the Genesis and arcades.

Since that time, I haven't really cared a lot about baseball until Konami and 2K teamed up to finally release Power Pro Baseball in the U.S. I have it for the Playstation 2 and it is the most fun baseball title I've played since the 16-bit generation.

My favorite was Tommy Lasorda's Baseball for the Genesis.

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/451/tommylasordabaseballzj1.png

During the spring and summer of 1990, I kept track of all my teams stats in a notebook (wins, losses, hits, walks, strikes, errors, homeruns...the whole deal). The game hasn't aged well, but back in the beginning of the 16-bit era it was the shit.

If I may add another question to this forum: When did you stop playing baseball games?

Good question. I dunno. I guess it just got "too complicated" for me after the 32-bit era, or even during. Aside from 3D Baseball and WSB '98 on Saturn, I can't stand 3D baseball games. 2D baseball games, when done right, I found to be pretty damn fun. I dunno... it just didn't make a good jump to 3D at least from where I sit. It just became meh. The games got slower and perhaps more realistic, but I don't want to play a 45 minute 9 inning baseball game when I can play one in about 13 minutes as with Ken Griffey.

Rob2600

I like the simple baseball game in Wii Sports, but the baseball game I've played the most throughout the years is Bases Loaded for the NES. It's still one of my favorites.

I also used to play M Network Super Challenge Baseball for the Atari 2600 a lot. I'm sure if I tried it out now, I'd find it unplayable.

The All-Star Baseball series for the Nintendo 64 was very well done, but I preferred the faster pace of Ken Griffey Jr.'s Slugfest.

MLB Power Pros for the Wii is supposedly great. Has anyone played it?

When did you stop playing baseball games? ... everything new seems way too confusing for me.

I've been staying away from most sports games for the last few generations of consoles. Like you and Greg2600 wrote, most of them are too complicated now. I'd much rather play an old sports game like Baseball Stars or NBA Hang Time than a new one like MLB 2K8 or NBA Live.

My baseball playing history started with Home Run which as everybody knows sucked. Next up was Bases Loaded on the NES and to this day I find it to be a quality baseball game. On Genesis I absolutely loved the original World Series Baseball. On PC I played a ton of Tony LaRussas Baseball II. Nothing real memorable on the generations after up until MLB 06, and MLB 07 The Show.
