Calling all Resident Evil fans! It's time to reminisce those wonderful moments from that horrifyingly spectacular series know as "Resident Evil".

I bring this up because out of all the video game series I've loved in my life (Castlevania, Sonic, Final fight, you name it), the Resident Evil franchise holds more memorable moments than any other.

Why, you may ask? Well, personally, I think it has something to do with the shock value. There are some really scary moments.

My all time favorite memory comes from Resident Evil 3. The visual of the Nemesis chasing after you, shouting "STARS!!!!", and breaking down doors was just an all out adrenaline rush. It was something that topped every moment in the series thus far, and forever will be burned in my head.

What about you guys? What are some of your favorite memories from this AWESOME series?

I used my camcorder recorded my cousin playing Resident Evil for the first time on playstation right after it came out and it is still a good laugh watching that video since he jumped pretty good at that point.

Do I hear youtube calling?

Seriously, put that on youtube and it will get over a million hits. I know I'd like to see it.

Thats not a bad idea, I will have to get around to digging that thing out of storage sometime if for nothing else than converting it all to dvd.

Everything about the first game, from the opening cinematic, to the first zombie that you encountered, to the click-click-click sound that the Hunters made, had a profound impact on me during those impressionable teenage years... in fact, it actually inspired me to make my own game in computer science, where you had to escape your school that was overrun by the 'evil faculty' (really, was there any other kind?). But, alas, my youth was corrupted when my teacher informed myself that there wasn't any known language that possessed a letter in the alphabet low enough to grade it :(

That was a classic scare. One of the best trailers for resident evil was on the japanese version of street fighter alpha. That came out about a year before the game release and man was that awesome. It had a decapitation scene that I didn't see in the american release. I saw that and knew that ths was going to be one intense game. If anyone ever gets a chance check it out.

Another note. The ds version of resident evil is a superb translation. I was quite surprised.

Worse than that for me was when the little bugger broke through the interrogation room mirror, and I saw it coming!

However, that didn't scare my big brother, oh no not him. What got him was when he was playing it and the fax machine sitting right next to him got a call in. Thought he was going to hit the ceiling on that one.

Agreed, but I don't like the new arrangement, those touch screen minigames bug me.

R.E. Memories...let's see...

1.) My biggest "I am so screwed" moment was in RE4. It was in the castle, right after you kill the 1st blind maniac (the guy with "wolverine blades") and stop fire from coming out of those statues mouths. You go into a large room and see about 8 guys waiting for you. It was my first playthrough and I only had my pistol and a few rounds for my dinky shotgun.

2.) Another freaky part of RE4 are the constant voices that seemingly come out of nowhere, directly behind you. It's the best use of surround sound I've ever experienced in a game. My hands were dripping with sweat the entire length of my first playthrough. I can still vividly remember that creepy whisper-chanting followed by a slice to my back.

3.) The roar of the chainsaw guys in RE4's, "Mercenaries" mini-game. Once you attract their attention, you can see them from across the map coming directly for you. The PS2 version's sucky sound ruined these moments, but the Gamecube/Wii versions still have that chainsaw "roar" intact.

There's so many more, but I'll stop there.

My favorite Resident Evil memory?

Hmmm ... not sure if I can pick out ONE specific moment, as there are so many great in-game "moments" as well as franchise "milestones" in the whole of the series.

OTHER THAN playing RE4 for the first time and feeling "life" rushing violently back into a slowly expiring franchise.

I'd have to say ...

The Leon Kennedy/Jack Krauser knife fight in RE4

AND

Marveling at the brilliance and beauty of the RE1 remake on Gamecube and fully appreciating the fan service that that was.

My favorite memories are the classic quotes:

"Barry. Where is Barry?"

"Blood. I hope it is not Chris's blood"

"Take these acid rounds, they are good against living things."

"That was close! You were nearly a Jill sandwich!"

"Jill, here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you." :D

RE0's scarriest moment was when I was waiting for the elevator in a dark basement and the tyrant came out of nowhere and slahed the elevator controls and it left a deep laceration in the walls 3 feet long. Also Whenever a slug zombie was present I nearly shit myself.

RE4 when the chief of the spanish pueblo grabs me and starts strangling me as I walked out of a room in his house and I the boss battle where his body rips in half and he turns into a head spider.

I have a couple of good moments in mind from each of the games, although I will just go with the ones that scared me the most.

In RE1, in the hallway where the dogs would jump out. The first time scared the bejeezus out of me and everytime after that. Also when it changed from being dogs to GINORMUS spiders, I had to drop the controller and leave the room. (I had massive archnophobia back then)

In RE4, the fucking Iron Maidens scared me because of the way that they moved, all jittery and stuff. I always hated that effect in movies, like the remake of House on Haunted Hill. Also when you found that small sack in the dumpster (I think it was the dumpster) and it started moving on its own. I hated the fact that you never find out what was in that sack, although it might have been too frightening for our brains to even comprehend.

Oh yea and the Krauser/Leon Knife fight, was just epic. I have a save file right before that fight, so I could just show my friends how ridiculous it was. Only thing I didn't like was how the buttons always changed so I died sometimes while trying to show them it. :(

Surprised noone has mentioned the "Hunter" from the first Resident Evil yet. Although the cinema that lead up to his apperance did make it seem like he would be a tad larger.

Also the Zomibies that would come back if you didn't burn em in the Resident Evil Remake, that was a wtf, zomg moment. Especially for me cause I never read the previews that they could do that, lol. Fast zombie = :O.

My favorite RE moment in the history of forever? Hmmmmmmmm... not sure I can pick just one. I'm actually a fairly recent fan to the series, having only really gotten into it about a year ago. However, zombie arms breaking through the busted windows in the police station hallways of RE2 is a vivid memory than lingers still in my brain. Oh, and the very first encounter with a Licker and the irritation of facing them from then on outward. Heh...

There's just so much awesome to be had in the entirety of the RE series, though I wasn't much into it despite the fact that I had owned RE1, RE2, and RE: Code Veronica for quite a while. However... believe it or not, the awesome design of the RE Mansion area in SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash was what made me reconsider the series, and... well, I gave RE1 another try, and for some reason, every element clicked with me. I've been quite the fan ever since then, and I eagerly await RE5's release! :D

I haven't sat down and played them in a while... but the ones I've played the most were 2 on N64 and 3 on the PS1 (about 6 or 7 years ago). So they both kinda run together for me.

The arms coming out of boarded up walls (randomly) in the police station hallway- scared the piss out of me. I was sitting in front of my new TV with headphones on, and had to turn the volume way down after that. The anxiety from it was making me sweat.

And yeah, the Nemesis monster from 3 is probably the biggest "Oh Shit!" part of the series for me.

And also the countless times I would run out of ammo- especially at bosses where I wouldn't have any grenade rounds left (and 15 handgun rounds wouldn't cut it). Because of this I've had to start a few games over after I saved at inopportune times. Not only did I love these games, but they also pissed me off quite a bit.

Hrm.

* Beating Resident Evil 1 with a friend on his Playstation back in 1997.

* Renting Resident Evil 2 with a rented Playstation because I didn't have one and the game was great. Also, finding out the story behind the police Chief... God.

* Trying to get away from that goddamn Nemesis in RE3:Nemesis.

* Leonardo DiCa - er, Steve's Hulkification and uh, you know.

I haven't really played RE4 that much...

Edit:
Two more:
Seeing WESKER in RE: Code Veronica. I STILL don't understand how the fuck did he survive RE1.
The unknown character that gives you a weapon at the end of RE2. Has Capcom ever cleared up who that character is supposed to be?

Resident Evil 3 when Nemesis crashes through the window at the police station nearly gave me a heart attack.

Wait, you mean Ada? If you beat the game with Leon, it's Ada that drops you a rocket launcher. I actually can't remember what happens with Clair at the end in regards to an extra weapon.

As far as moments go, part 2 started it all for me, I was straight hooked on that thing when my friend bought it. We hung out and played all night only to get to William Burkin at the end with.........a knife. No joke. Suffice to say, we had to go back to an older save point & learn to conserve our friggin ammo!
Another "oh snaps" moment has to be in part 2 when you're running from the giant dude in the coat (Mr X., later known as Tyrant). At one point you swear you've lost him. Then when you go into this control room and look at one of the monitors, the mother fker is headed right toward the camera, (and that camera is located mere steps from you) brings his arms up behind him and straight sledgehammers the camera! The screen gets distorted and *pffts* out, & you have only a few moments to equip whatever you've got and fire away at that guy and run!

So many others, this is just one of them...

Marveling at the brilliance and beauty of the RE1 remake on Gamecube and fully appreciating the fan service that that was.

Yes Agreed

The first time I played REmake I was just awestruck at the love that Capcom gave to this game in remaking the now classic Playstation 1 original.

Everything that I could have ever wanted REmake to be it was and MORE;

Incredible graphics , great atmosphere, improved "tank control" gameplay, better voice acting and many many new and great elements added in to the REmake that only a RE fan can really appreciate.

I actually still play this game a couple times a year or more on my Gamecube.

Other great RE memories for me where:

When Resident Evil 1 was first released me and my now ex best friend stayed up for 2 days and 2 nights playing through it and then for the next week we picked up game magazines and hint guides to find every "extra" that was in the game from the extra costumes to the weapons.

another

I luved Re 3 : Nemesis and thought it to be such a better and far more intense game than the casual favored and overrated RE2.

RE 3 : Nemesis had customizable weapons and a (back-in-tha-day) incredibley fun Mercenaries mode that is the precersor for the great Mercenaries mode that is in Resident Evil 4 and will most likely be much the same with some type of multiplayer added for RE5.

RE 4 : I have a full review of all versions of Resident Evil 4 over at Gametrailers that has over 3,000 views if that tells ya anything about how much I still luv this incredible game.

Full review of Resident Evil 4 GC,PS2,Wii and PC LINK : http://sabre2922.gametrailers.com/gamepad/index.php?action=viewblog&id=170325

In fact I think of RE4 as the perfect 3-D game and Super Metroid to be the perfect 2-D game.

But hey thats just my 2 cents.

Hah yea that was classic.

I played the original Code Veronica on DC so much I actually wore out my first Dreamcast playing that game and Soul Calibur.

Ive always thought that Code Veronica was actually the REAL Resident Evil 2 or at least what RE2 SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
I guess only those that have played every single RE game when they were originally released could understand what I mean by that wether they would agree or not.

Favorite Resident Evil moment? When I played through half of Code Veronica, got to a boss, and realized...

...that you needed the grenade launcher to beat him. Mind you, I had never picked up the grenade launcher, and I couldn't backtrack at that point.

My first time playing through, nonetheless. Needless to say, I put it down and haven't played a Resident Evil game since.

OK, I was resisting but Survival Horror is my favorite genre. I wish I could say my best memories was much different but it yet again relates to the dogs jumping through the hallway window in RE1 BUT picture this setting..........

I was playing on a 1084s Commodore monitor, I was wearing headphones turned up pretty load, sitting in my little room in pitch balck darkness! It was my first play of this game I knew little about. At the point I had gone down said hallway before with no surprise so I was at ease, of course the next thing I new CCCCRRRAAASSSHHH! The dogs jump through the hallway window with my face very close to the small 14' screen, my headphones filled with the loud crash at the same time my controller freaks out vibrating.
I tell you, that was the moment something happened I did not believe possible, a videogame scared the living shit out of me, I mean I literally felt my heart skip a beat at that moment! After the shock I just started giggling with a smirk thinking "THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!" and have been hooked on Survival Horror ever since. Unfortunately I have never been that freaked out again, I did enjoy the Tyrant chasing me in RE3 thinking he was just around the next corner, dreading having to backtrack to areas I had already encountered him. Also enjoyed much of RE4 of course, and RE Veronics on Dremcast, well it was just great to see a RE game of that visual quality and ON DREAMCAST WOOT! But alsas I don't know if my heart will ever skip a beat again as it did in that RE1 encounter, though now that I am over 40 that might be a good thing?

Playing AS Wesker in RE:Umbrella Chronicles was a cool newer moment in RE games.

Where does RE zero stand in the anals of RE with fans? I like the zapping back and forth. I loved Zero - I thought it was very well done. The only problem with the game was that by the time it had come out, the series was due for a shakeup. The formula - even though I love it - was getting a little old. I think Zero was great, though.

Completely AGREED

I also like Zero and I thought the "zapping" mode worked great and all but after REmake the old "tank controls" or more specifically the camera angles really needed to be updated.

I still play Remake and RE4 often but Zero not as much.

Truth be told only Resident Evil fans or for lack of a better discription Hardcore RE fans can really appreciate and get into Zero.

"anals"? ROFL

(whispers) I think you mean ANNALS. ;)

I loved the look of Zero. It had the high level of detail/rendering of the Gamecube RE1 remake, it being a prequel was intriguing narrative-wise, it played as well as any other standard RE game, and the 2 character control setup was a decent (if minor) innovation for the series.

The ONE aspect of RE Zero that made me come pretty damned close to not liking it at all was the lack of inventory crates.

Having to drop items in real time/space/anywhere made the game needlessly difficult inventory wise ... and just didn't make sense to me as any type of "improvement" or "progressive" gameplay.

I've read TONS of defensive diatribes by Zero enthusiasts with advice like "just pick a central room and drop everything there" and even though I DID that during gameplay ... it never felt as "accommodating" as the inventory crates did.

Out of the three game series that have succeeded to scare me and creep me out Resident Evil holds a special place. It was the first. :) The other series being Silent Hill and Fatal Frame. With Resident Evil and Silent Hill, the sequels lacked the freak-factor that the first games had in spades. RE came back with a vengeance with RE4 though. Silent Hill hasn't fared so well but, they still have time to recover. :) We'll see if Fatal Frame loses it's edge when the fourth comes out. Somehow, I doubt it... going back on topic now...

Resident Evil is one of the few game series that I even remotely feel the need to own completely. The first game had that much of an impact on me. Few games can capture my attention completely with tiny tidbits of news or info about an up coming release and yet RE is one of them. Who knew that undead Dobermans crashing through windows was a winning formula? I knew, after involuntarily soiling myself. LOL

One complaint I have regarding RE; The movies... the first was decent enough yet still slightly disappointing. The sequels were unworthy of the text it would take to berate them. Awful things. :/ Silent Hill movie you say? In my reality, there was no Silent Hill movie. You got that? :p It got File-13'd along with House of the Dead, Bloodrayne and Alone in the Dark. Disrupt my reality at your own peril. ;)

@ Frankie: Yeah, thats one of those things. Sometimes making an aspect of the game more real takes away from the game rather than add. While storing your goods in a central room is more likened to a real life scenario the auto warping crates were much better for the job. I'd opt for convenience over realism in games any day. You're already suspending disbelief playing... no big deal. RE4 had the best inventory system IMO. Rarely did I run out of room for stuff. Then again, I played it without going for every weapon and even sold off some stuff that would make some wonder WTF. :)

My fave RE moment was when I first started playing the original and my wife's beside me on the couch reading and half-watching my game... I come upon the first zombie kneeling on the floor chowing down on some poor bastard, and it turns and looks up into the camera and I get this delicious zing! up my spine ('cause I'm a huge Night of the Living Dead fan) and my wife kind of half-screams followed by "That's disgusting! The dog crashing thru the window stands out in my mind as the first time I almost pissed myself from a video game.

I can't remember which one it was. You played a male character and got to a certain point, then you restarted and played as a female, then the 2 of them met up and the game continued. And you both got on a train and the boss was breaking/eating the train trying to kill you both. That was a hairy moment.

I should add that I had a Resident Evil dream two nights ago - my wife and I were being chased by one of the Red REMake zombies in an underground lab. We used all our ammo, and we were pretty desperate running around trying to hide or get out of the complex. Finally we ended up luring it into a trap where it fell down an empty elevator shaft to a few floors below. It was pretty cool. Except we had to go down the building for some reason, so we knew it would be waiting for us. Seriously, that was my dream. Kind of freaked me out, too. I wonder if this thread is to blame, since I haven't played RE:UC (or any RE game) in while?

* Renting Resident Evil 2 with a rented Playstation because I didn't have one and the game was great.

I remember doing the exact same thing. It was the second time I ever rented a system, the first being the genesis.

My first memory comes from this exact sitting - playing the opening of RE2 and getting to the store, and the zombies break through the window and tear the guy a new one... first RE game I ever played + first OMG moment = memories.

RE4 - those creepy crawly things in the sewer. You can hear them crawling around and then all of a sudden after entering a jail cell they're right there. Surprised me quite a bit.

RE4 - I don't remember exactly, but I think you were controlling ashley in a dark area and the music goes all creepy and those slow knights are following you around. I remember pausing the game and just sitting there for a while because it creeped the hell out of me.

RE4 - when you grab the treasure inthe middle of the room, triggering a cage to come crashing down while guys on the outside of the cage are shooting arrows at you and all of a sudden from a higher level a Garrador (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Garrador.jpg) falls into the small cage with you. That was a HUGE "Oh SHIT" moment.

RE4 - Finding the first regenerator in the jail cell in the dark. Advances for you so slowly, you start shooting it and nothing happens. Oh shit, and head for the door. Later on you learn how to kill them, but this first one is a surprise.

These are only a few off the top of my head, I'm sure I'll read some more posts and go "Yep, been there, remember that".

Bumping some more RE threads.

Just got done with RE4 (PC) and finding out theres no mouse support I thought "Oh god this is gonna be bad" but really it's quite good. Since you need to stop to aim it doesn't really matter. Only thing that gets used to is the cut scenes when you have to push a button or 2. instead of it saying "HIT L.SHIFT AND R.SHIFT" it says "HIT 5 &6" So you have to keep doing the scene till you figure it out, but you get used to it. Also having to hold r.ctrl gets annoying but ah well I coulda changed it but I'd have to get
used to a new button format.

And there were also some creepy moments in this game, for instance being ashely in that dark place with those knights, the 2 dogs jumping through the bushes, I jumped alot during that game but still doesn't compare to my first RE1 experience...I was like 10 and the dog jumped through the windows :(
