Just bought another Nomad ($5:D) and it came with 2 Sega rechargeable battery packs. I know I can use a Genesis 2 power supply to power the Nomad, but how can I charge the battery pack. Will the Genesis 2 PS charge it, or do I need a special charger?

I believe that the Battery Packs charge when you plug in the AC adapter (much like a modern camcorder). Some one may need to confirm that (as I'm not entirely sure).

But the problem is that you're gonna have a hard time charging those rechargeable packs, as most (if not all) will no longer hold a charge.

About the only other option, that I took, was to purchase the Battery Pack that lets the unit run off of (6) AAs- and pick up some rechargable batteries... and it would be close to the same thing. I found one from a member on here for $12 shipped a few months ago.

I didn't even think of that, but I imagine that that is the case. I might get lucky though, and get an hour out of each of one. I'll probably only ever use the AC adapter anyway.

I'd go for the Battery pack.. Much more reliable and when it dies you don't have to do things that are generally *harmful to make them work again.

*ie acid.

As for the original question, a Genesis 2 supply will recharge the battery pack as well. It charges independently of the Nomad, as there should be an input for the adapter plug on the top of the battery pack.

FWIW, my pack still recharges fine, but it has been awhile since I last used it.

Thanks, I'll charge it up and see how well it holds a charge. How long does it usually take to charge?

I think it takes 2-4 hours to charge(atleast back then). But in the meantime, just use your ac adapter.

I tried charging the battery packs all day today, and they don't hold a charge at all. Would have been nice to have them work, but the AC adapter will be fine for me.

I always though that you had to put already charged batteries in the battery pack. No recharge function with the Nomad 'strap-on' pack.

To my knowledge anyway. I could be wrong.
