Opoona is a traditional RPG that was just released on Wii and from reading around the gamefaqs board many compare it to the closest thing released yet comparable to Earthbound. The game has met mediocre reviews (in the 65% range) however I am trying to ignore that and find out from RPG players if this game is worth picking up. For some info on it gametrailers has a nice video preview:

Click the edit button twice, you can edit your own title then.
As far as it being worth picking up, it's a RPG for the wii. Your pickings are currently slim in that genre. If it sucks, atleast you've tried it.

dont be too involved in reviews, read them to find out about hte game but ignore the score. people make games in the hopes that people want to play them... dont trust someone else... if its sparking your interested, go ahead! play it!
i hate ico, you love ico, different tastes ;)

i will let you know later this week, I traded for it off estarland, so as soon as I try it I will post a quick review on here. I keep seeing comparisons to Earthbound so what the heck, it will probably get a small print run since it is from Koei and a weird title that won't sell well, so I bet value stays strong

While I don't know much of anything about it, I can tell you to take comparisons to Earthbound with a grain of salt, especially if they're from the GameFAQs crowd. From what I've seen, the formula is: quirky RPG with humor = like Earthbound.

The only comparison I've heard between this game and Earthbound is that you can play the whole thing with one hand, like Earthbound. As far as the combat or quirky humor, I dunno about that.

Are there any 8 or 16 bit rpgs you can't play with one hand?

Well, you can play most of them with one hand if you're putting the controller on the ground and chicken pecking, but in Earthbound you can play the whole game with one hand without putting the controller down. They made it so that you could do everything with the L button, select button, and directional pad. That made it unique. Opoona is the same way in that the whole game is controlled with just the nunchuk, so only one hand is necessary.

Personally I've mastered the art of holding the controller in one hand, using my fingers to control the d-pad and my tounge to chicken peck the buttons. Not suitable for extended play.

Wow, I had no idea. Thanks for the heads up!

Well there is one thing you can't do one-handed in Earthbound...
ring the bike's bell! But yeah, L Button/Select is an awesome feature

Sweet, I'm interested to hear what you think of it. It looks pretty cool to me, but I'm afraid the quirkiness might be masking an otherwise dull rpg (hey, just like Earthbound!).

i got this yesterday finally and have played about 2 hours so far and it is pretty fun. It is definately quirky, the battles are kind of neat how you can direct your shots and all. It is simple battle scheme but there are some neat little things to do.
It isn't nearly as good as Earthbound, but it is a pretty good game so far
