The time is now. Carpe Canim! Seize the dog!
OK, I ordered a Drummania controller today, effectively elevating my Bemani status to "Obsessed Freak". I own games from 5 different Bemani series now. And that's not counting 5-key and IIDX as seperate series.
I propose that all of the DDR lovers, IIDX lovers, Guitar Freaks lovers, FreQuency/Amplitude lovers, Parappa lovers, Rez lovers, Samba de Amigo lovers, and Pump it Up lovers among us take over the Forum du Jour once the Lore topic burns out. Who's with me?

I'm looking at yet another: Mini Moni Syakatto Tambourine!
Is this worth it(cost/playability) as nuts as it looks?

Count me in!
I suck too much at DDR to even enjoy it, and got bored eventually with Beatmania (and DrumMania - I sold my set), but I'm still a Guitar Freak, and I LOVE Amplitude, Frequency, and dare-I-say-it... Bust-a-Groove 1 and 2!
Forum du Jour, here we come.

Yo.
I'm down. :-D
I don't have as much hands-on experience with the DDR and Bemani games as I'd like, but I'm a stone cold fool for alllll thems music games.
Samba. PaRappa. Lammy. Frequency. Amplitude (soon!). Bust-a-Groove.
Yeah. Good stuff there. 8-)

I dunno if I count! I've only played Guitar Freaks (which I loved instantly), and I don't own anything for any of the games at all (sad, isn't it? Help me to be not so sad and sell me your spares!)
But I'd enjoy it just the same :D

Rock on. I might as well post my rhythm resumé while I'm here....^_^
I'm not into DDR as much as I used to be, but I still try to beat new 9-foot songs once in a while. And I couldn't help getting a little excited over DDRMAX2 for the Japanese PS2.
I can beat most 5-stars and some 6-stars in Beatmania IIDX (all modes except for ANOTHER), a few 6-stars in Guitar Freaks, and nearly all 5's in Pop'n Music.
I've been playing the Parappas since the game was brand new...so that'd be about 5 years. I got a late pass for FreQuency but I love the remix mode (even made a CD of 5 of my remixes) and Gitaroo Man is AWESOME.

I'm in :) My floor shakes too much (convergance, big screen TV) for me to do much dancing lately, but Gitaroo man, and others are great! :)

Heh, don't mind Davebrit. He plays Guitar Freaks with the dualshock and IIDX with a joystick. ^_^ Like I should talk, I've been playing Drummania with the dualshock to pass the time until my actual controller gets here...

Those ones just never really got my attention. Maybe if I see them cheap at the store, I'll get one or two.

I play the ones you don't have to stand up and move around for. I have Parappa 1 and 2, Umjammer Lammy, and I used to play Bust a Groove 1 and 2 back in the day.

I have Parrappa, Um Jammer, Beatmania GBC, Sambo De Amigo, Space Channel 5, Rez, and Mad Maestro.
Rez is definitely my favorite!
I guess I am a "casual" fan, heh. But I think it'd make a cool forum du jour! :)
Cheers,
Ben
davidbrit2
04-29-2003, 03:56 PM
Oh yeah, I forgot about Rez. That game is trippy.
How about just making a permanent Bemani/Music Games forum? It's popular enough right now, and it would be nice to be able to discuss the subject on a forum that's generally more intelligent and mature than places like DDRFreak. :-) I'd like to be able to ask questions about Drummania without seeing "teh" and "evar." :-D

mmm Space Channel 5. This game justified me owning a dreamcast. I can't WAIT for chapter 2, and maybe a rerelease of the first on the PS2!

I *almost* imported the second one for the DC - I think Achika might have it and could probably tell ya more 'bout it.
There's also a SC5 game coming out for the GBA. Left, shoot, right, shoot... Shoot shoot shoot! :)

04-29-2003, 04:22 PM
Like Tetsu, I partake of the "sit on yer ass" variety of music/rhythm games:
Parappa the Rapper
Um Jammer Lammy
Vib Ribbon
Space Channel 5
Samba de Amigo (1. I'll get off my ass when I get some maracas. 2. It's like this game has an announcer saying "bargora needs burritos...badly")
Frequency
Mad Maestro
Rez
But I might go for DrumMania one of these days.
When I say "boom boom boom" you say...
davidbrit2
04-29-2003, 04:30 PM
Ooh, Vib Ribbon. I want that. It's got to be the only game to combine Beatmania with Moon Patrol.

04-29-2003, 06:00 PM
Here's what I have...
DDR Disney Mix
Frequency
Rez
Space Channel 5
I enjoy playing these games...but I'm flat out no good at any of them...it gets frustrating.

@ Captain Yoshiro: I'm in...
I've got:
Amplitude (new to my top 5 games of right now)
Frequency (next favorite music title)
Mad Maestro (awkward controls)
Samba de Amigo (maracas have never been used, waiting to get back home to do so)
Space Channel 5 (love Ulala, but hate the rhythm)
And GMR magazine says Space Channel 5 2 is coming to PS2, but Sega's not the publisher...
On a somewhat related note, as far as music-related, I love Def Jam Vendetta, and as far as button-memorization games, I love V.I.P.
For some reason, I keep rereading the back of the GBA Britney's Dance Beat box at the local KB Toys...

Certainly not! Pop'n Music is basically Pop'n Heroin, but with more severe withdrawal symptoms. I'm going to have to boost on Best Hits later.

Oh boy do I ever! I sucked at first, since I don't know much Japanese, I wasn't sure what buttons to push at first. I'm still waiting for a stateside PS2 release & the GBA....if it would stop getting pushed back already
SC5
SC5-2
Pop N Music (coming soon from Yashiro)
Rez (trance, baby!)
Samba (with maracas.....best $80 I've ever spent)
DDR (US Mix)
Parappa
Parappa 2
Um Jammer Lammy
Guitar Freaks
Frequency
Amplitude (playing now.....can't set....down....)
hmm...seems like there was more, but I can't remember. I used to have this game called Jung Rythm for Saturn. It was a lot like Parappa, but the beat bar was really hard to see.
Does Incrediable Crisis count? You know...that first stage is a rythm one)

Japan has: (not counting Best Hits releases)
DDR 1 thru 5, Extra, Disney, Club 1 & 2, Oha, Dreams Come True, True Kiss Destination (PSX)
DDRMAX, MAX2 (PS2)
Beatmania 2 thru 6, Club 1 & 2, Gotta 1 & 2, Dreams Come True, Sound of Tokyo (PSX)
Beatmania IIDX 3 thru 6, Beatmania Da Da Da (PS2)
Guitar Freaks 1 & 2 (PSX)
Guitar Freaks 3 + Drummania 2, Guitar Freaks 4 + Drummania 3, Drummania (PS2)
Pop'n Music 1 thru 6, Animelo (PSX)
Pop'n Music 7 (PS2)
Keyboardmania 1 thru 3 (PS2)
Para Para Paradise (PS2)
A ton of other Bemani game ports for Dreamcast, Game Boy, N64, and Wonderswan, plus standalone pocket Bemani games
Hmm.....I wonder if any of those games would sell in the U.S..... ^_^

zmeston

Hmm.....I wonder if any of those games would sell in the U.S..... ^_^
Guitar Freaks and Drummania would sell, as virtually every American male wants to rock out. Pop'n Music might sell if marketed to kids and chicks. Keyboardmania is overwhelming and kind of silly; Drummania and Guitar Freaks are satisfying because they simplify the experience of drumming and playing guitar, while Keyboardmania is too damn close to the real thing. Beatmania might sell, as lots of kids wanna be a deejay. And, of course, all these games would need to lose most or all of the J-pop (Pop'n Music excluded for obvious reasons) to sell in the States.
-- Z.
Edit: Just realized that KBM might sell if marketed as a teaching tool, a la the Miracle.

So, what's the different between the regular Beatmania series and the Beatmania IIDX?
davidbrit2
05-03-2003, 01:31 PM
Basically, IIDX is Beatmania with 7 keys, and note patterns that would make your eyes glaze over. Don't even attempt IIDX until you've become quite good at 5 key Beatmania. ;-)

Count me in, I've been playing DDR for around a year now, just gotta keep workin', almost through Max 300 on Maniac! I only play in the arcade though; not the same making an ass out of yourself with no one to see it.
And Achika, I'd say that only that level would count, so not the game as a whole.
