Dreamcast

This would probably be the coolest thing. What you would do is play your games like always. Then you would insert a Network CD (homebrew made). Once you pop in the cd it will check for internet. Once it connects It will ask you for a Username and password (if you are a first time user then you would make one) Once you log in, it would connect to the website were all the gamercards are uploaded. Then it will check your memory card to see your 5 recently played games (it would figure it out by what time the game was last save). Then it would upload all the saves information onto the server. and then everyone will know what games you own and what games you have played. And maybe see how far you are in the game. Then you can have a little picture to put as your sig (like Xbox live)
Well? wouldnt that be cool. If I could arrange some dreamcast programmers, this could happen. But it depends if anyone would care.

Sweet, now you just need to learn how to program and you'll be set. Sounds like you've already taken care of the hard stuff

I kind of do, but You have to sacrifice a whole computer for the programming or you have to buy a katana developer kit.

i really wish i could help with this, the project sounds awesome. unfortunately i have nothing to offer. but im interested to see where this goes. connecting to the internet might be difficult though as most people have broadband now and dont have a dial-up subscription anymore, and as most dreamcast owners know, the broadband adapter is not only hard to come by, but expensive.

Theres a way to hook the phone cord into the computer, then use the broadband internet to transfer internet into the dreamcast.

Two thoughts:
1) this is an incredibly awesome idea - kudos!
2) as for internet access over dialup, you can still hook your dreamcast to the internet via modem even if you only have high-speed. Most PCs have a modem in them even if they're not in use. You can bridge your connection so that the Dreamcast plugs into your PC modem and the PC connects to the internet via ethernet. I did this years ago, and it was pretty simple then, so I imagine it's simple nowadays ( ? )

Nah, then you'd have to make hardware for the modem connection. Best to use systems that already have this capability, like the Game.Com
