*cough*

So. Who's got an R-Zone?

*crickets*

What are your favorite R-Zone games?

*kicks tiny stone across empty lot*

I'll let someone else start what is sure to be one of our most "illuminating" conversations ever! :)

Dude! This is quite possibly the only Tiger "system" more worthless than the Game.com. I mean, just LOOK at this impressive line-up of titles. You got movie licenses, popular arcade games, translations from other game systems. The R-Zone comes in three models so if you think you're too cool for the "headgear" style unit you can play the super LOUD XPG handheld or that funky tabletop SuperScreen version.

It's got it ALL, baby!

Just look:

Apollo 13 (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Area 51 (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Batman & Robin (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Batman Forever (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Battle Arena Toshinden (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Console, R-Zone "headgear" (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Console, R-Zone SuperScreen (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Console, R-Zone XPG (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Daytona Racing (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Independence Day (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Indy 500 (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Jurassic Park: The Lost World (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Men In Black (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Mortal Kombat 3 (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Mortal Kombat Trilogy (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Nights (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Panzer Dragoon (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Primal Rage (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Road Rash 3 (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Star Trek (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Star Wars: Imperial Assault (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Star Wars: Jedi Adventure (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Star Wars: Millenium Falcon Challenge (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Star Wars: Rebel Forces (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Virtua Cop (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Virtua Fighter 2 (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Virtua Fighter (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
VR Troopers (by Tiger, for R-Zone)

That's nothing to sneeze at.

Here's my memorable story with the R-Zone:

I heard that there was something called the R-Zone that was like game.com2, but I still have yet to see what it looks like. Word has it, that is sucks even more than the game.com... if that's possible.

Apollo 13 wasn't a really bad game,it was just a game that didn't do so well in all catagories.

I've got 2 versions of the rzone and about 5 games...remember they were selling them at kmart, and I just didn't care (or want to spend actual $ on them).

I first nsaw one a t friend's house...his littlew brother owned the headgear version. I thought it was gimmicky and was surprised that it was a cartridge based system that I hadn't heard of (EG..."why was this not in EGM...shit...they reported on the game.com...")

The R-Zone is the "Coloroforms" of video games. But much, much less fun.

Found the head gear at the flea market. Wanted to get it but upon closer inspection, the screen was sanpped off. So much for that.

I haven't palyed it, but how bad can it be? It has Nights, and Panzer Dragoons, so it has to be okay right guys.....guys?

R-Zone table top simulator instructions:

- Get flashlight

- Have someone hold flashlight and shine it on the wall

- Make a shadow bunny on the wall - look! It's Panzer Dragoon!

- Have someone else make Panzer Dragoon sounds ("ka-pow!")

- Repeat until bored stiff.

- To change games, merely call the shadow something else, and substitute appropriate sound effects. (e.g., Indy 500: "Look, it's a car! Rrrrrrrrrrrrrr!")

</end R-Zone simulator>

I got an R-Zone at a thrift, with a Virtua Fighter cart already slotted in. However, only after looking at it cloely when I got it home, I found that it too, had the screen snapped off. Anyhoo, you can still play the game, mirror-image style anyway, if you look directly at the cart-screen thingy. For those who have not played one, if you are familiar with the Tiger LCD handhelds, the R-Zone is similar, only a lot more clunky and silly looking.

Oh, and I found it a bit funny when I went into my local Toys R Us and found the games/electronics section renamed the "R-Zone". :)

No! For the love of humanity, DON'T LOOK DIRECTLY AT IT.

You will turn to stone!

Or melt, like those guys in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Or maybe it just makes you really, really itchy. I forget which one, but just don't look directly at the R-Zone screen, 'kay? It's bad.

Ahh.... I remember seeing the R-Zone at Wal*Mart when it came out. I was like eight then, and I thought that it was the coolest thing... at least as I looked at it on the rack. I needed it! Then came the night when I finally bought it. I imagined it to be like the Virtual Boy, except there were no warning on it about going blind when you used it. I imagined wearing it to McDonald's, and playing it while I was ordering food. I imagined too much.

I strapped the hunk of plastic on to my face when I got home, and experienced Batman like never before. I was shocked. It was the best thing ever! I never played such a great game ever before... wait, it wasn't turned on yet! I must have been looking through the plastic lens at Batman on the television! So, I turned it on. Some red blurry figures appeared inches from my eye. Amazing! I could even move the red blobs on the transparent panel while still remaining completely aware of everything around me because I could SEE THROUGH THE PLAYING FIELD! Yet the more I played, the more I wanted to put the game away.

Still, I convinced myself that it was the best thing ever. Maybe it was the fact that the games were projected from the screen on the game itself (which, by the way, can kill you if you look directly into it) on to a little plastic panel that made me like it. Maybe it was the fact that you could fit a spare game into the uncomfortable controller, so it wouldn't get lost in the sofa that made me like it. Maybe it was the fact that I could convince very stupid terrorists that I was a invincible cyborg that could shoot rays of death while I was wearing it that made me like it. Maybe I just forced myself to enjoy it because I had just paid the full price for it, which was like 30 or 40 bucks back then!

So I played the infernal device for a long time the next day. Eventually, after about an hour of use, my eye really began to hurt. It was at that point that I realized that the R-Zone was trying to kill me! So I stopped playing it.

Eventually I found some games for it for about 50 cents, and I bought them. I quickly realized that I had wasted my money. Was I really playing Panzer Dragoon, or was I playing the long lost sequel to Custer's Revenge? Was that really Virtua Fighter, or was it a relaxing game that taught me Tai-Chi? Either way, they were disappointing. Especially when I saw the R-Zone system for 50 cents the next week, and the games for just pennies.

About a year ago, I found the R-Zone in a box, and I put it on a table in my room. About a week later, I decided that I would again try the game system that nearly made me blind in one eye. But I couldn't find it. So I sat down on my recliner with my Game Boy, leaned back, and heard a cracking noise. I looked down, and realized that the recliner had cracked the screen off of the R-Zone. NOOOOOO!!! Saddened, I put it back on the floor, and played my Game Boy. Ahh... the life of an R-Zone owner.....

Beautiful post, Neb. That pretty much says it all about the R-Zone.
My only experience with the R-Zone was finding one at a garage sale... for fifteen dollars. Used, and in rather shabby shape. I was so shocked and disgusted by the ludicrous price that I drove to the nearest gas station, picked up a bottle of pop, then drove back to the sale just so I could do a spit take.

I've got the headset & handheld version & 3 games, Jurassic Park & 2 of the Star Wars games. I was not impressed but not completely dissapointed. I figured it was just a gimmicky glorified LCD and well... it is. I enjoy some of the regular Tiger LCD's but the one I have for the R-Zone are pretty weak.

I surely wouldn't invest much money in it but if very cheap, I'd grap more games.

Console, R-Zone "headgear" (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Console, R-Zone SuperScreen (by Tiger, for R-Zone)
Console, R-Zone XPG (by Tiger, for R-Zone)

There's one more "console" of this, which I don't remember the exact name of right now (R-Zone Datapad?), but it's built into a little "PDA" of sorts. I got it from Sly... I guess it was only sold overseas?

EDIT: It's called the R-Zone DataZone.

I bought them for my collection..

I have two head set units..with different straps.
I have the R Zone Super Screen..and the R Zone X.P.G handheld.

I bought a few games loose and sealed off Ebay..

The Game Play on The X.P.G. reminds me of the Virtual Boy..because it plays in Red..

Heres a Pic...

yeah i have one, i just dont display it, nor do i display the somewhat similar WONDER WIZARD. got mine at a flea market for $2, picked up some games here and there from the random bins of happy meal toys. i thought it was pretty cool that i found the panzer dragoon game, but i couldnt make sense of the gameplay. yes this system blows, and this is coming from the one guy who liked the game.com! still as a collector i wanted to have ALL the games, wel maybe not enough to pay $4 for them at walmart. i wanted the tabletop model really bad though, it looked pretty cool. so i bid one up on ebay and it was mine!...then some big creep going by the screen namme of "digitalpress" popped up and sniped me, guess he had to have it :)

I've owned two of the Super screens, the first one from ebay. I remember opening it and my sister's boyfriend at the time was like "what the heck is that?" and had never heard of it. I thought to myself, it's better that you haven't. I have like two games and they are amusing for like five minutes just to snicker at how bad they are and that's it. It won't ever get any play again.
