I've got to go to St. Louis for a few days for business. I've never been.

Where are some places to check out while I'm there to look for:
(1) used classic (or new I guess) games, and
(2) anything technology related - preferably out of the ordinary.

Thanks! :D

Last time I was there, someone on the board suggested Trade N Games. I highly recommend it. www.tradengames.com.

You MUST check out Slackers CD's & Games.
They have great prices, and carry EVERYTHING!
There is around 12 stores that they own, the one on Highway K in O'Fallon (not the O'Fallon in Illinois) being the one I always went to. (while I lived there, anyway)

Search them up on Google, you will get the list of every store so you can find the closest one to you. ;)

There was already a thread on this, but I don't feel like searching for it. Here's the deal:

The two best are Trade-N-Games in Fenton and The Game Trader in St. Charles (if you go to The Game Trader, be sure to ask to see his bins of rare NES/SNES/Genesis/whatever games; he keeps a ton of stuff hidden behind the counter).

There's a chain called Slackers, which has in the neighborhood of eight locations spread around the city (all of which are in the suburbs), and there are also two GameXchanges in town.

A Play 'N Trade just opened up, but I haven't been to it.

All of the above sell classic games through current generation games, and most have a very good selection. Slackers tends to be overpriced and a few of them are unfortunately located in malls (this is a new thing for the chain), TNG is very clean and organized, TGT is very dirty and disorganized. Both the owner of TNG and the owner of TGT are very smart and helpful and almost always the person manning the counter when you go. GXC's classic game selection has been dwindling in the past year or two, but there's still good stuff to be had.

St. Louis is the best city for classic gaming that I've ever been in.

A handful of their stores have been moved into malls, as I said in the post I was writing as you were posting yours, including this one.

For whatever reason, almost all of the Slackerses in town are in strip malls with Wal-Marts, and recently a bunch of local Wal-Marts pushed them out to make Super Wal-Marts or some shit, and the now-homeless Slackers took root in malls. The O'Fallon, MO location moved to Mid Rivers Mall, the Fenton location moved to South County Mall, and the Chesterfield location moved to Chesterfield Mall. I think one of the Illinois stores had to move, too, but I haven't been out that way in a few months.

Aside from having to go into a mall, both the South County store and the Mid Rivers store are worth the trip. The Chesterfield store is pretty small, though...

When Slackers originally opened it was always in the same strip as a Wal-Mart. They did this for ease of location because you could always tell someone on the phone that they were next to Wal-Mart. The few stores that have moved had to because the Wal-Mart's expanded into Super Wal-Mart's.

Also I second Game Trader in St. Charles, if you can handle the dirtyness. He always has some neat stuff

Trade N Games is also pretty excellent

There's still one Game X Change by the south county mall

Do you know the particular area you'll be in? That might help narrow down the search a bit.

I'll be staying at the Hyatt in St. Louis, but if necessary I'll be renting a car to check out some of these spots. I had no idea St. Louis had so much to offer :)

At Union Station downtown? It's a pretty nice place there but I'm not too sure of any gaming stores near by. I'd just google some maps of the places people mentioned.

It's not too hard to get lost. Just keep driving and your bound to pass an interstate. I-270 completely engulfs St. Louis. Also the arch makes a great navigational landmark and you'll be staying just a ways down the road from it.
