I've been doing some 'reseach' for the last six months or so and built a list of 'Video Game licensed board games'. I came up with the following article where I got more than 70 of them listed, including really unusual and unique Japanese games. I've always found these 'cardboard' versions of popular video game franchises sort of... interesting. Anyway, there you have it, I thought I'd share this with you.
Do any of you own an Ideal game from the Flip Arcade series ? They published games based on arcades such as Tutankham, Wizard of Wor and Pooyan but I haven't been able to find nice pictures...
Here's the article : Video Game licensed board games (http://www.vgden.com/article.htm?boardgame)
Thanks :)

That's a great article on a really cool topic ... I only wish there were more detailed photos of the boards / pieces for all of the game boxes listed.
Ah, analog games ... for my money - there really is NO substitute for a good game of FLUX.

Very cool... I'd like to try just about all of those.

Just a note, that third Dragon Quest game you have is based on the "Dragon Quest: Dai No Daibouken" manga and anime series. ;)
I'm also pretty sure that Japanese Pokemon game you have in your article was released in the US as well. I know I've seen that cover art here...

The one problem with most of these games is...they just aren't all that good. I've got about a dozen of them now, and while the video gamer side of me still looks at them and says "aren't these cool?" the board gamer in me says "Meh, I'd rather play Power Grid"
I'm still looking for a Rockman edition of Settlers of Catan...any of our Japanese members give me a hand on that one?
Also, Kitsune...you are correct, it was released as Pokemon Master Trainer

Woah, I had the Pac-Man game! I completely forgot that I had that, and probably haven't even thought about it in 20 years or so.

Much like any other video game adaptation, eh? :P

> The one problem with most of these games is...they just aren't all that good.
You're sooooo right. However, some of the Japanese games are quite impressive - look at the stuff included with Dragon Quest Dungeon R (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/images/game/27649), isn't that awesome ?... donno how good the game is though...
> Just a note, that third Dragon Quest game you have is based on the "Dragon Quest: Dai No Daibouken" manga and anime series.
It is, that's right. I've included it in the list because the anime/manga series was based on the video game.. but maybe I'm wrong... the Video game came first, didn't it ?...
> I only wish there were more detailed photos of the boards / pieces for all of the game boxes listed.
I have hundreds of pics of the games listed in the page, but they're all copied from auction sites, this is why I didn't include them... if there's a game you want to see more pics from, just let me know and I'll post them here :)
> Also, Kitsune...you are correct, it was released as Pokemon Master Trainer
Thanks ! That's great ! I didn't know it was released in the US too. Great find :)

I took these two pix at CGE2K7. I believe they were at Y-Bot's table but I could be wrong.

I currently own Pac-Man (two copies), Donkey Kong, Super Mario, Zaxxon, and Centipede. I've tried playing a couple of them with the kid and, yeah, they're pretty bad.

I vaguely remember a few of these. Thanks for the refresher!
They might not be that fun to play, but they look nice. Of course, I just like classic video game related items. I guess that's why some people say I have too much stuff.

i used to have the SMB and Zelda board games. I believe I sold them for about 50 bucks each on eBay in the late 90s. Hard to believe they got that kind of money. I don't remember either of them being that fun. SMB was rather convulted, if I remember correctly.
I really want the Zelda and Sonic ones, even if just to see how bad they are. I've seen the Zelda one pop up in ebay once in a while but never had money.
Really cool article :3.

The PacMan game is about the only one I really liked, and I feel like it was more because the pieces were so darn cool. Those giant PacMan pieces were very cool.

Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Zaxxon (which I don't think I ever really played), and Berzerk.

I remember wanting the pacman game ages ago. And I barely remember the mario game.
Didn't they have a tetris game that was more like connect 4? Seems like it would work better than whatever that one is.
I kinda want that Zelda game...too bad there's no pictures...too bad it's probally no good.

I have a SW'ed Wizard of Wor Board game, (trade negotiable) and from the art on the back of the box, it looks like there's rubber bands needed. The ones in in th box are no doubt petrified or dust by now.

They belong to my friend Billy Galaxy. All part of the Y-bot/Billy Galaxy/Suteki booths I guess. I have a weird Pac-Man or Pac-Land RPG game from Japan somewhere.

y-bot, this is awesome !!!! Do you think I could borrow the pic from your Pac-Land ? (I'll of course credit you on the site).
How does the 'Time Lock the Invaders' work ? Do you have to assemble them before a time limit ?
scooterb23, this is also great, I knew about three other Ideal games, but not this one !.. I wonder how many they published...

Yes, you can use the pics. The Invader game doesn't work or I can't figure it out. Each Invader is two seperate pieces and imagine you have to put them together before the timer runs out. The platform they sit on pops up about 1".

I suspect the "invader" game is a ripoff of super perfection, where you have to build them before the timer ends, when it does the internal thing ejects and they go flying, god that game was frustrating ;-)

Out of all of those games, Doom and its expansion are the only ones worth playing. Surprisingly, it kind of plays like the actual game and support things like death matches. Also, theres another Double Dragon game
Heres a link to it

How would Simcity the card game be counted? I actually have four or five of the others. Myst, Pac-man, frogger, Tetris
Here are some better photos of the Gradius board game, including the back of the box and the contents. I got 'em off Yahoo Japan Auctions about six years ago.

Here's a very neat Mario Don't Worry' board game. I want, but Euro 40, that's almost $63:

I never owned any of these as a kid myself, unfortunately. Back then, I didn't really even know they existed somehow. My friend did have a Donkey Kong board game, though, which we attempted to play once when we were in fifth grade or so. We wound up using the plastic Kong to throw little barrels at our little Mario figures, and not much else. I remember wondering why, if I wanted to play Donkey Kong, I wouldn't just play the game.
Today, these games seem really cool to me, especially the Pac-Man games. I don't know if it's nostalgia, or a fascination with their relative obscurity (or possibly board games themselves; I've found myself being more interested with ones I missed lately, and I've always loved those mechanical games), but I think they're cool.
But I'm weird.

I can't believe how many board games they're are related to video games. Some of those I wouldn't mind owning.

Tamagotchi is incredibly cheaply made.
Pretty fitting considering the source material, now that I think of it.

I have both the Tamagotchi and MegaMan: NT Warrior board games in storage. They aren't that great, but they are interesting conversation pieces.

I have the old school donkey kong one with the Donkey Kong that sets down the barrels! Awsome! Recent ly I picked up the New Donkey Kong Collectors Edition Jenga. And the Other day I found Tetris Tower 3d! That things awsome! It is electic(bogy wogy wogy) It plays the Tetris music and makes noises. Has all these rad Tetris pieces.
Does anyone know how many pieces it came with. It doesn't have instructions. The one on Ebay doesn't come with them neither. Did it come with instructions? I got 10, 10, 10 11, 13, of each piece, just doesn't seem right?
Thanx RASK1904
