After two terrible experiences with the 360's red ring problem, I've decided to pick up and move on to a PS3. With the DS3 coming out soon and a few titles I've been waiting to play; I don't think I could have picked a better time. However, I'm a little confused about the controller that comes with the PS3? Will it be DualShock or am I stuck with the SIXAXIS?

Sony is going to stop manufacturing the Sixaxis shortly (if they haven't already) and do a sell-through on everything that's out there, however, I believe we won't see them "bundled" with a PS3 until the 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 set.

The way these things work with discontinued hardware and sell-throughs, you probably won't see it as a 100% "standard" at retail for about 4-6 months. (Maybe a bit sooner, maybe a bit later.)

Ah, that's too bad. Looks like I'll be throwing down the extra paper for the DualShock 3 separately.

do you think they are going to lower the price on the six-axis controllers? or do you think the dual shocks are going to be more expensive? I'd rather just buy the cheaper ones myself because I'm not big on the rumble.

Dual Shock 3's are $55 MSRP and Sixaxis' are $50 MSRP.

I assume once the purge happens and the sell-through is complete, Sixaxis controllers will become very common and very inexpensive on sites like eBay.

Yeah, if Sony is trying to phase out the Sixaxis the price point will probably drop at retailers too.
