So after owning my cabinet for more than a year, I legit reached Wave 99 last night, on the Blue Rom set on default difficulty (3) and with three starting lives. This was a major accomplishment for me!

It seems like it's all in how lucky you get with the humanoid placement on the Brain waves.

Now, to be fair, I kicked the bucket on Wave 99. Does it go any higher?

Robotron is easy mode unless you start the game on difficulty 10. That separates the men from the boys ;)

That makes me cry inside :(

That makes me cry inside :(

Let me rephrase that, it's not "EASY" to get that far regardless, but level 10 difficulty is the preferred way to play= )

I like to play Robotron on the highest difficulty level with the max amount of lives. Adrenaline rush!!!!!

I'm pretty sure Robotron has 255 or 256 levels and then starts over.

The waves go up to 255 which is the max value a byte can fit.

11111111 = 255

it then rolls over back to wave 1.

I have an original Robotron machine that's on the fritz. I use to play it all the time and at one point was able to roll it on level 10/25,000 per free man. A friend and I used to play one hand each and roll the score (10,000,000 points) on factory level settings. I now play it on my Mame quad cab, but don't have the endurance I used to have. I score about 3 million points and then kill of my 30 or so men. I love the game and still enjoy playing it more than almost every other game. If you like Robotron, you should check out Mutant Storm, Geometry wars and Grid Wars. They are modern day versions of the classic.

but 8 bits = 256 numbers

is 00000001 the first level?

If that's the case then they're cheating you out of an extra level by wasting 'level 0'. Not that it even matters.

Level 0 could be a reserved event, and if that's the case then there would intentionally be code redirecting the game from level 255 to level 1, otherwise the event would reitterate and be noticed. I'm sure there's someplace that contains the level details.

If anyone cared enough they could disassemble the code from a mame rom and answer everyone's questions about the levels. I'm not modivated enough for anything like that though. Not anymore anyways...maybe when I was in college...and had a final I should have been stuying for:p

This is my favorite game of all time. I love many ports this classic game has recieved. I go to Ground Kontrol(Portland Arcade) for my fix of the game, which they have in great shape. The game kicks my ass, as in the arcade, I can only get to level 14 or so on a good day and several quarters later.

I love the gba port. The funny thing was I never played it much in the arcade or home. The I pick up the Ds and it is my favorite quick shot game.
