Hey, the topic pretty much says it. What's the best arcade stick available for the SNES? I see some on eBay that are pretty cheap, but are they any good? How much would a 'good' one run me?

Best one was a C & L Stick

Best one was a C & L Stick

Yup yup, lightweight yet solid construction with all arcade spec parts.

How much would one of thems cost me? Also, what does C & L stand for? I can't find a picture of it on google.

Slightly related to this subject, has anyone here ever used one of those adapters that lets you plug a PS1 controller into an SNES or Sega Genesis? I thought of going that route with my Pelican Real Arcade, but I'm paranoid about trying it only to find out that the buttons are all mapped weirdly or something.

I bought a C&L when they were first available, paid $90 of my hard saved money for it. It was a damn good controller, I beat the hell out of it... years later after MAME came around I ended up gutting it and making it a PC arcade stick.

For SNES, you can never go wrong with the ASCII SNES Advantage, and Capcom's Fighter Power Stick was excellent. If I recall the Japanese version had Sanwa or Seimitsu parts. I paid $14 for a marked down Capcom stick as Electronics Boutique was trying to get rid of them. Right next to the new, boxed Turbografx 16s they were trying to get rid of for $30.00... I didn't buy one... :frustrated:

Trumpman, the C & Ls show up on eBay randomly. Best bet is to try SNES Arcade Stick or Joystick on eBay.

I have an ASCIIware Fighter Stick SN, and I'd say it's well worth the $6 I paid for it.

For reference, here's a picture of mine before I sold it...

Any that you find will have red, white and blue buttons but on mine I replaced them with colors matching the Super Famicom color scheme. I also replaced all the microswitches with fresh ones. I ended up selling it here years ago, for $72.00 shipped to VideoGameNut, a user with like two posts. LOL While the case is lightweight plastic there is a metal plate beneath the upper panel to keep things nice and sturdy.

Don't be too rough with the C&L controller. Long ago I was playing Fatal Fury Special soon after it was released for SNES... I got so pissed off at one point I smashed it with my fist, the plastic broke around the screw under the label there and the screw cut my hand. LOL

Yeah I saw those Fighter Stick SN's for like $8 on eBay. They're probably not that great, but they're better than playing Street Fighter on a controller. And they're cheap and I want two, so I'll probably go with that option. I don't really want the SNES advantage because of the button layout. Who knows why they make it 4 buttons and then 2, rather than the arcade standard 3 and 3, but it seems like it would be really annoying.

I really think the Capcom stick would be a better choice, if you don't mind the cosmetic defects on this one-

Buy it now for $30.00 shipped.

I have the Genesis version of that, picked it up for a quarter at a yard sale a few years ago (from the same guy I would eventually buy my Pole Position cabinet from). It's probably the best "lower cost" alternative to using a full on arcade components stick. The stick is of good quality, the buttons have good feedback, and the whole thing is comfortable to use.

I can't recommend the C & L stick enough. Heck, MAS SYstems used to make a dual SNES/Genesis stick back in the day, that's the only one better.

How are the Super Advantage sticks? I picked up a box of two of these at a garage sale for $5 a while back. I really haven't used them much, besides testing to see if they work.

I really like the Super Advantage joysticks, ASCII has always made great quality controllers. I use the Super Advantage for all my SNES games except fighters, and I don't really use the SNES for those since I have arcade machines with either real hardware or MAME now. I also use the Capcom joystick every now and then for shooters and whatnot.

By the way, this is the PC joystick I made out of the C&L joystick after I broke the casing (And didn't really play SNES much anymore)

I have a C&L stick that I bought back in the SF2 arcade days. It works amazingly well and is super tough. I actually upgraded mine to work for PS1/PS2, Xbox, as well as SNES (three cables coming out of the back!). I even added a socket for the Xbox Live headset module to be plugged in.

I might consider selling it if you or anyone else are interested. PM me if you want to see pictures or to make an offer.
