What games do I need to get? I had an atari 2600 when I was young so I have no experience with Intellivision. So what are some of your favorite games?

Diner is a must own I think its the best game on the system. Shark Shark! is another great game, Beauty and the Beast is a very good Donkey Kong Clone. The Dreadnaught Factor and Atlantis are great shooters. If you get the Voice Modual B-17 Bomber is a cool WW2 flight sim. Its ports of Burger Time and Pac-Man are excellent.

I always kinda liked Utopia as well, sort of an early real-time strategy game. Pre-historic Sims?
Also, I'd recommend Atlantis. Actually, most or all of the Imagic titles were probably some of the best titles for the system.
I may have some extra Intellivision carts around for sale/trade, pm if you might be interested.
Didn't mean to make this a sale thread, but if you're looking for more games....anyways, those are my suggestions for good games for the system.

I second Diner, but it will set you back in price. Burgertime is EXCELLENT. I also recommend Demon Attack, Night Stalker, and the Masters of the Universe game(I like it).

Boxing and MLB Baseball. 8-bit sports ports don't always age well but I think these two hold up nicely on the old INTV.
And I'll second Burgertime as well. Great port.

must haves include: astrosmash, night stalker, las vegas poker and blackjack, advanced dungeons and dragons, advanced dungeons and dragons treasures of tarmin, utopia, horse racing. Those titles should keep you busy for awhile treasures of tarmin is especially cool as its a first person dungeon crawler (which i normally hate) and really shows off how this system blew the 2600 out of the water.

I can't stress how much fun the D&D games are for the system. I've only ever played them emulated but they will be the first games I pick up when I finally get my Intellivision.

I played the hell out of the Imagic games, Pitfall, Skiing, and the first two D&D games as a kid.

Oh and Star Strike. Nothing like watching the Earth get blown to bits in 8-bit glory.

I've always liked the Intellivision version of Pac-Man.

Shark! Shark! (which still has the best game over music in the history of gaming), Night Stalker, Astrosmash, Diner, Bump & Jump, Space Hawk, Maze-a-Tron, Tron Deadly Discs, Utopia, and AD&D Cloudy Mountain, are all 'must owns' for the Inty.
Now you need to find an Intellivoice and B-17 Bomber and Bomb Squad, and you're all set!
EDIT - And NFL Football and Major League Baseball are 2 of the best 8-bit sports games ever created, IMO..

Astrosmash, Burgertime, Diner, Lock N Chase, Masters of the Universe, Locomotion, Pac-Man, Night Stalker, Pitfall, River Raid, Dreadnaught Factor, Frogger, Q*Bert, Shark Shark, Bump 'n Jump, Happy Trails, Dig Dug, Thunder Castle, TRON Deadly Discs, I could go on and on here. 8*) All the sports games are really solid too, even better if you have someone else to play with.

Noone has mentioned PBA Bowling, and for that time...it's quite a good game of bowling.

Everyone else has already mentioned my favorites.
Can I just come in here to say I regret selling my original Intellivision? I had an original system in excellent condition, that worked like a charm and had a nice spread of games (the titles I had are listed all over this thread).
I've gotten rid of a bunch of systems over the years. With the exception of a Saturn that my mother got me as a gift, none of them stings more than selling that Intellivision. I've never gotten ahold of one since.
So my advice to you Gary is hang onto that Intellivision.

I love Snafu. My favorite game on the system by far.

If you searched the Classic Gaming board and didn't find a thread that has already been done on your question, give the Classic Discussions board a search too. I always find hidden gems in there.

Hello commander! Computer reporting.
The closest thing to the real thing.
Once you compare, you'll know.
Intellivision space games.
Fighters! Twelve O'clock!
Flak!
Bandits! Six O'clock!
Target in sight!
Bombs away!
Gooood shot!
I can't allow this.
If you watched the George Plimpton commercials years ago, have the voice module AND get certain games (B-17 Bomber for one), You'll know what the hell I'm talking about.
It won't be easy!

I can't believe no one has mentioned Space Spartans. It's the best of the Voice Module games by far. It's pretty much a deluxe version of Space Battle which is also a good game.

Yep, Space Spartans is a winner. Thunder Castle will blow you away with it's great music and animated mazes. Tower of Doom is a fantastic D&D-type game with a wide range of playability, good for either a quick go or a long afternoon. Diner has to be mentioned again, since it's such a dang good game. And also Utopia, since it's got some great depth for a game of it's vintage.

Utopia and Tower of Doom ftw. Tower of Doom is difficult to hunt down for a decent price, but I remember picking this up in a ziplock bag at Toys R Us back in 1989 and being amazed it was an INTV game.
Any of the Intellivoice games are worth it, and check out the latest homebrew, Space Patrol which is phenomenal on a INTV.
Did anyone mention Safecracker? They should have, great stuff. The size of the virtual world in there is pretty impressive.
