This is the SCPH-5501..

I got this system at a thrift store, brand new mint, still sealed in package.. So the gamer I am, I took it up to play it.

But, sadly it's electronics aren't working 100%.

In Need for Speed II, sometimes I'll be racing, and all of a sudden the draw distance cuts short, and the next thing you know, ALL you see is the sky, no road or terrain, and it locks up with the engine sound stuck.

In Tomb Raider, sometimes I can go through a wall and then your stuck in the game, but you can re-load a game save.

So whats up?

First thing I would check would be the CD-Rom drive. From all that you've posted, it appears that your drive is getting ready to crap itself.

Already? The drive is like-new. It's never been used before until just the past week.

hmm.. sadly, optical drives can't stay unused for long periods of time.

You can check simple documents to notice that, like you DVD Player's instructions. You need to use it at least once in a month. Or the lens can "die".

Remember to play a music CD in any optical device you have at least once in a month.

Yeah... who said the optical media is the best?

I could really use some help here guys. I am currently playing FFIX I just started the second disk and your first fight is with the Black Waltz #3. The game loads fine up untill the fight starts. It will go through a couple sweeps of the battle feild loading, Then as it zooms in to finally start the fight It freezes. No sprites show up and the music continues. I cleaned the disk a with warm water and a soft cloth. I had noticed there were slight scratches before I began the wash. Anyway, anyone have an idea on what to do besides cry because I need to go buy a new FFIX.
