Wow.
A recent post pointing us to the internet god "wayback machine" also reminded me of that very cool but almost immediately outdated shockwave flash graphic we used to run when you came to digitpress.com.
For you nostalgic types - I almost forgot that this still exists. I never removed it, just removed all links to it. Witness the opening page, circa 1998...

Isn't that version a revision to the original? Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I recall the first version being a lot less dynamic.

There is only one such file, no "directors cut", no "extended version", and certainly no "dynamic directors extended cut version". Not sure what you remember but when I drink heavily I remember things that never actually happened. Not that this is what's going on but it is one possible explanation.

I don't remember that (didn't even start coming to the site till sometime in 2003 or later) but I remember when almost all sites had those flash type intros.

Ah, the websites of the 90's... lots of frames, animated GIF images and unnecessary long flash intros

The 90's? Try surfing with dial up these days, you get the sense that every single web designer has decided that EVERYTHING needs music, animation, flash movies, Java and a whole lot more. It takes like 10 mintues to do anything on facebook!

Hahahaha it was awesome, although it tended to slow the whole board down!

But I remember the first time I saw that, with speakers on...scared the ever loving crap out of me.
Good stuff.

I was looking for this a few weeks ago when I was doing shirt designs.
I even had that as my phone's ringtone for some time, thanks to that flash animation I saw every time I came here.

I remember first seeing this in '02/'03. Wasn't the yellow DP logo retired at that point? I also thought the jingle was longer, but I could be imagining things.

How could you forget that? That image and sound was burned into my memory. I remember having my speaker setup cranked during a PC gaming session, I would leave it and go to work come back at 12-1 am when everyone was sleeping and log on. SHit!! I would wake up my whole family!!!
DOes anybody remember the old wood-grain board design with the old style TV?? I would say that is going back at least 8-10 years maybe more. Holy crap have I been here that long!!!

What do I know that from? Were you using it for something during our meseta days? Maybe for the arcade or something...
I don't know why I know it but I do. When did you stop using it?

I remember that one too, especially the whole bit about turning down the speakers in a hurry (my first visit to DP was from work - though now I can't remember what it was for, except that in record time, Joe decided to give me the custom status of "Power Lord". LOL

Add me to the list of folks that remember that intro fondly.
That really takes me back.
As another poster mentioned too, the old woodgrain look was awesome as well.

Oh yeah, that's what I remember most too. In fact, I know that intro continued into my working days, so it was there when I got my first real job in 2003.

Man, that's freaking cool. I remember the first time I saw that I was like "what kind of site is this?"
Definitely brings back memories.

Since I usually navigate straight to the forum, thereby bypassing the intro, it never occurred to me that this had been removed from the site's content, although I remember it quite well from my lurking days circa 2000-2003.
I should mention also that I've always enjoyed that piece of music, electronic or otherwise. It's called Fanfare For The Common Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xzf0rvQa4Mc), in case anyone's curious.

I remember that intro! I also remember reaching quickly to lower the volume on my speakers at work. It wasn't long before I would link directly to the forum, like Pan did, and I didn't notice when it was removed.

I prefer the ELP version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OLWgrr671g&feature=related) of the song.

I remember that as well but had forgotten all about it until just seeing it again. Thanks for posting that. It gave me a nice warm, nostalgic feeling.
P.S. Yes, I lurked around here for quite some time before joining.

Haven't seen that flash in awhile. Would DP ever use a flash intro to the site again?

I joined not too long agao and I was a lurker for a little while before that, but it was well before this flash. Anyway, even I remember seeing it somewhere. I guess that's saying something for the flash, the site, or both!

I remember getting frustrated that there seemed to be no way to access the site with Lynx, since there was no separate "Skip" button. There used to be a lot of sites like that. (Of course, I eventually sort of figured out that I needed to go to index2.htm.)
And yeah, the Flash intro kind of outstayed its welcome.

Nobody does flash intros anymore. It's a shame, I liked them. Some were very creative.
I did a few of my own back in the day (2003-2004) for my Sega site. Good times.
Hey that's great Joe, I remember that, and I always wished for a Atari VCS game intro, not a Coleco game. Good times, I can't even recall when I joined the first time around.

Reply to this topic should only begin with "I remember...", that would make it unique...espaccely about the old school DP site, the very first time I went here, my speakers volume was set pretty high, so you imagine the music of the intro...full blast in the house !

Once every few days, I literally try to find this thread and play that into just for the nostalgic feel that I get when watching it. I guess I could just bookmark it (which I'm doing now), but watching this REALLY makes me happy (does that make me stupid - probably ;) ).
Every time I watch it, I think to myself "wow, I've been in this hobby a long time" and I can't believe how much I've learned, and how much fun I've been having.
/ends the sappiest post I've ever written.
*goes off to watch it again.
