My Sony-brand PS2 memory card got deleted! There were about 30 games on that thing! Grand Theft Auto 3, Dark Cloud 2, Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore, Metal Gear Solid 2, Ico, Devil May Cry, Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland, 3 MTV: Music Generator creations - all gone!

I haven't played the PS2 in about 2 weeks. Anybody else ever had this happen to them?

I've never had PSX/PS2 data loss not caused by the user, ie, me.

Was the card stored properly? No extreme temperatures? I can't really think of much else. May have been a bum card, or maybe someone else deleted the files?

My condolences... :/

False alarm, Ben. I put in a brand-new memory card along with the old one, and now all the old data is back. All I have to say is "whut the?"

<goes to PS2 to copy files of games I may never finish anyway>

Oh, cool.

I hereby retract my condolences. I will save them for another day.

I dropped my Sony PS2 memory card a couple times, and I didn't use it for about 5 months. Not sure which caused it (I have a hunch), but when I checked it again, about 6 or 7 of the 20 or so files had been corrupted.

Actually, now that I think of it, I installed the Qcast tuner ( www.broadq.com for more info) with that card, and the divx codecs that are stored on the memory card probably wind up looking like corrupted files, what with the qcast tuner being unlicensed and all.

If it's a cheap 3rd party card, beware! I get quite a lot of gripes and whining over at Gamefaqs board about 3rd party card mysteriously getting erased or corrupted after only a few weeks or so.

Just stop on it and buy a GameCube... :D

Several years ago, after the release of Gran Turismo 2 on PS1, this happened me when I was approximately 75% through the game. It so infuriated me that I picked up my PS1 and ALL of my games and took them directly to the locally owned game shop to trade them in for credit, swearing off Sony for good. That lasted about 3 months. :/
