I just saw the news that the ESRB rated a new Castlevania game for the DS. It is called Castlevania Order of Ecclesia. Let the speculation begin.

A quick dictionary search tells me that Ecclesia means church. That doesn't really tell me much about the game though. I'm kinda thinking it might take place during the Crusades, though having not played Lament of Innocence, I'm not sure if that would work out with the storyline.

I hope Konami finally abandons the ridiculous anime style artwork of the previous two DS games. This is Castlevania! We want our "girly-men" heroes back (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/20/castlevania-ds-art-style-of-ugliness/)...err, nevermind.

My friend and I were hoping that this would be the 1999 game, but for some reason I think Konami will probably skip around. Well hopefully the game is good and comes with a preorder bonus.

Yeah, I preferred the character art from before the Dawn games, but those times might be long gone.

Regardless, I'll probably get this game. It's Castlevania.

While I like the SOTN style, I'd play it even if it was all chibi characters. I just hope they stick to the exploring Castlevania, not the linear ones. I know I'll probably get flamed for that comment though :(.

This is very good news. Information on this game has been very hard to come by. I too would like to see a return to the SOTN & AOS style of art. But as long as the gameplay is rock solid like it has been, I'm on board. A new Castlevania adventure is not that far away me thinks.

I was hoping for the 1999 game as well, but I agree with the others about Konami passing it to another time. I hope we get another limited edition pak or something.

The anime style drawings IGA has excused by saying he'd rather have Kojima work on other games and be fully focused on them, since her work takes ages to finish. It seems she isn't working on this one and I dunno why, since there hasn't been even rumours of another game. She may be taking a break since she made the illustrations for DXC though.

im boycotting castlevania games untill they mature a bit (or rather get back to what they once were). i bought Dawn of Sorrow and said that was enough.

Heh, so true.

Also: This game has blood. Hooray! I guess.

SOTN was a much more gothic affair than the past two DS games were. Here is a comparison.

SOTN is first followed by DOS. This is mainly what some fans complain about... I for one am not really apart of this group. It's the gameplay that really counts, and the games on the DS play a lot like Symphony of the Night. They are solid action / adventure titles all the way.

Ok, putting those two side by side makes the difference more clear. I retract my previous statement.

I hope they switch it up a bit. The formula's getting a little stale. The last two Castlevanias weren't that exciting.

I long for the days of the old. Remake of Simon's Quest!

Also, Kojima's art style is totally a shoujo (girls manga) style but at least it's not retarded animu. I bet I could do better than the artist working on Dawn, jesus christ they ruined Soma. I liked the pic with Mina, Soma and Arikado though, by another artist. Same goes for the PoR ones, still haven't found the artist's name though. Gameplay is still most important, I agree with j_factor that the last two games weren't all that. Incredibly easy and not variable enough, at least to me. Then again, so was Symphony on the easiness part.

Fact: Nobody in SotN has hair as crazy as whats-her-name from Dawn of Sorrows.

A quick dictionary search tells me that Ecclesia means Eeguh has no clue about storylines.
True.

I know I'm in the minority, but I found Dawn of Sorrow more enjoyable than Symphony of the Night. I love both, along with other games in the series, don't get me wrong. But, collecting souls was insanely cool, and addictive, are far better than the familiars in SoTN.

Now I expect to be called completely insane, but DoS, along with Dracula X and Super Castlevania have my favorite soundtracks as well.

I had no issues with the art in Dawn of Sorrow or Portrait of Ruin.
