Wasn't sure exactly where to post this but a good deal of my subject matter is retro so i figured this was the best spot. I love art just as much as i love gaming, and since i fancy myself a fairly decent photographer, i took these pictures in an attempt to merge my 2 loves. I was just wondering how many other people out there do video game related art?

sorry but no. im gonna seem like a complete dick here but i think the pictures themselves are mediocre at best and mixing it with games... i dunno... seems very corny. i understand if this was for a project or ad... but im trying real hard not to laugh at them/this/you.
again, please, im sorry. just my 2 cents... which are usually worth around 1-2 pesos around here =D
Nice shots there. I think this should be turned into a general art thread and moved to the off-topic forum. I was just about to make a thread myself.
I do a lot of videogame related art. Oil paintings, sculptures, digital media and stuff, though my DA account only has Sonic themed pictures so far. Workin on new material.

Haha, that last image evokes mid-90s gaming advertising so well.

I interpreted the last picture as representing Sega's demise as a main contender in the gaming world.

to be honest you do come across as a bit of a dick..this was for a project and i did put alot of time and effort into them..
i dont mean that all im looking for is praise but perhaps if the criticism were a bit more constructive..

So that's where Sega went... Silent Hill.
Some are soso, but I do like some of them too :)

Some I don't like, some I do, some I see what you are doing but don't like much.
The last one was good because it was different and not just a single console.
Some of your photos seem to be quite grainy though.
Keep up the good work, I like it when people take photos of ordinary things/places from nice angles and whatnot

I liked the last two pictures. The rest was just boring, sorry. And another thing, dont fuck up the colors when you're editing.
You also need to get a better camera man :D
But hey, it's fun to experiment with angles, close ups, backgrounds, lightning and stuff. So, keep on practicing and you'll probably take fantastic pictures one day!

He's got a decent camera (Nikon D50). Composition is good too. He just needs to work on the lighting and exposure.
I understand the look you're trying to go for with the natural lighting and exaggerated colors, but most of the pics look either under or over exposed. Use some fill lighting or at least use some reflector cards to get some more detail in there.
Most of the pics look like they could be commercial shots and aren't too interesting. I'd like to see some more oddball shots like the Sega controllers and n64 in the grass though. Like shooting systems & games in unusual/unnatural places, or dress them up like people or something. I dunno...I'm just throwing some ideas out there.

I like the last picture, it is very different from the rest and that is good.
The SNES one wasn't too bad, but I feel it would have worked better as maybe a painting than a picture.
Not too bad (except the Master System one, which I didn't like at all) but I think you should get more creative with the systems and their locations.
Also, you don't have to have light guns with their respective systems. An idea I just came up with would be two robots or vaguely robot looking things, one holding a Zapper and one holding a Phaser in the midst of a duel.
Run with stuff like that.

Yeah, the lightning and exposure wasn't really top notch. Looks like the ISO setting was way to high cuz most of the pics was really grainy and there wasnt really any details. Try to play around with exposure time, shutter and ISO settings. Also try changeing the depth of field in some pictures, it can be kinda tricky to learn thou.

deltoidsteep keep on training man. I'm not complaining, im just pointing on stuff you can improve ;)

thanks for all the pointers. keep in mind also that what i think looks proper on my moniter may look grainy/under/over exposed on a different moniter due to its settings. ive seen some of my stuff on different moniters and it usually doesnt look even remotely the same. but im definately going to try more interesting stuff now that ive just done each console by itself.
My deviantart is http://dark-hybrid.deviantart.com. I still vouch this for a general thread, so if the mods can hear my cry please do. Too tired to write PM's at this hour XD.

As a Graphic Designer, I admit that I found most of the images blah.
However...
That PSone pic? Nailed it. The ground texture and sharpness looks like something that came out of a Sony catalog.
For what it's worth, treat these like rough ideas. There's so much more you could do with the machines rather then just take a shot and make an over-exposed sepia tone.

I felt like most of the people here... some images are nicely composed and others... aren't.
If you play with saturation, try to be gentle with it and don't go overboard. It's actually better to look at your images in black and white and try to find the "bright spots" - this is where the eyes will go first. So make sure your subject is bright and readeable. A good example is the MicrosoftXbox360, the brightness values on the console (the subject) are lower than the background and the picture is hard to read, I think. A light on the right would have add an nice rim on the console and made it more readable... the key should have also been brighter.
Like most people also said, check out your ISO, it feels like there were quite high on some pictures (and if your camera is in automatic mode, it probably picked up 800 or 1600). You want to be in control of your picture quality, and if the subject is too dark, add more lighting and try not to go bellow 400 ISO. Most of these pics are 'inside' shots, so it shouldn't be a problem to control the lighting.
As HYB said, an Art section in the forum would be great ! Here's my Deviant Gallery (http://lkermel.deviantart.com/gallery) and all my video game paintings ;)

Similar to Dangerboy, i too am a Graphic Designer/Multimedia artist and i do agree with alot of the comments here regarding you work.
I have to say photography isnt easy! We see images with our eyes in their true colour and beauty, however capturing them as they are through a camera lens requires alot of skill and knowledge of settings ;)
The main problem i found with your images was the lack of light. As im sure ull find, the Flash on a camera isnt always too helpful as areas you dont want lit up become too bright. Other areas become neglected, ocasionally the flash can be too bright and reflects back into the images etc etc and so on!
What i would suggest is that you find a portable light source you can angle and aim where you need, this will be a great help to you.
Secondly, use manual mode!! Most camera settings today are pre set for the usual 'Cheeeeeeese' photos for the average user. But to get decent images such as the ones youre aiming for, Manual mode is a must.
Depending on your light source, fiddle about with the shutter speed and aperature until you find a comfortable balance on the Cameras EV (Exposure Value). Ultimately you want your image at 0 EV!
Also try taking your photos using a low ISO. Look at your Wii photo. The higher the ISO, the grainer the image will get unfortunately.
Finally, use Photoshop (I dont know if you did or didnt)...
Youll find most images off a camera that are going to be used in art form such as this need editing, wether its levels, brightness, contrast, croping etc.
Overall though you have some well composed images that are interesting that should benefit from a few of the tips i provided above. The places you have photographed your objects in really give your images a more interesting look :)
Im hoping what ive said helps, as its meant to be constructive critisim and help towards your future images :)
And seeing as this is an art/photo thread, i might as well add some of my own. Hopefully a few others will to!
Despite everything i said above, i dont consider myself fully trained in my new camera (Canon EOS 450D/EOS Digital Rebel XSi), however these are some of my early attempts!
I really enjoy Toy photography, so ill probably upload some more soon :)
