Peekaboo Pole Dancing is currently seeking partners to license its "make me a private dancer" product for Wii, reports Tech Digest (http://techdigest.tv/2008/04/peekaboo_poll_d.html). The company famous for its "Peekaboo Pole Dancing Kit" and celebrity-endorsed "Electra Pole" has apparently reached out to the gaming industry at large through an email pitching its would-be game.

While Nintendo is not likely to follow up its Balance Board (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/balance-board) with the "Posture Pole," or Wii Fit (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit) with "Wii Strip," there's certainly a market for Peekaboo's proposal: a way for mommy and daddy to stay connected after the kiddies are tucked in; or the after-party for Wii Sports Bowling Night at the Senior Center. Though with STDs on the rise throughout the retirement community, Wii Strip may be one gimmick Nintendo is prepared to shy away from (let's not further encourage our performance enhancing drug-addicted elders, amirite?). One thing's for sure: Nintendo draws the line when it comes to the corruption of the old people.

The pole dancing kit itself is highly disturbing if only for the fact that it's clearly marketed toward young girls. In fact, I remember reading about how shoppers found it in stores right with all the other traditional "little girl" toys.

That being said, no. Just no. There may be a place for sex in games (though I'm not totally certain how...read my article in Video Game Trader #4) but, I mean, seriously. I'm not anti-video game or pro-censorship but even I wouldn't specifically market a game like Manhunt to 6 year olds. And yet this peek-a-boo pole dancing game seems to have nearly that purpose because any adult who's genuinely interested in pole dancing as either a form of exercise or seduction is much more likely to just spring for a real pole and an instructional DVD than a $40-$50 video game simulation.

Thanks for the horrifying image of grannies all over the world breaking their hip while working the pole... :help:

This sounds like a very late April Fools joke, or something you'd see in a parody, I can't see anyone seriously supporting this thing.

Dammit, is that showing up as one of those "don't steal my bandwith" images? I cleared my browser's cache and it's still showing up as the right image.

And I remember reading that news reports of the product's existence were a hoax.

If you're using IE (particularly IE6), its cache-clearing can be awfully fickle.

And I remember reading that news reports of the product's existence were a hoax.

If that's true, it's a hell of a hoax. A+ April Fools prank in my book. Frankly, I'd be glad if it's a hoax and I bought it hook line and sinker.

How would a Wii pole dancing game even work? It doesn't make sense.

Same way an Atari 2600 pole dancing game would work: follow the on screen instructions, maybe pressing a button every so often to progress.

So players would be able to lay on the couch while pressing buttons once in a while. What's the point of the pole? This whole thing has to be fake.

I'm not sure but I figure it would be possible to rig a pole with the same pressure sensitive features of the Wii Fit board so what you do on the pole is simulated on screen or at the very least scored on screen.

You could strap the wiimote to your thigh... theoretically.

That will never come out. Maybe in this music video, But Nintendo would never let THAT on their consoles.
